Gulmohar's - 08/18/2019 12:18 PM

Does anyone know if Gulmohar's Whisky Paradise is still selling the inflatable bottle protectors? They are a dynamite way of protecting your duty free booze on the trip home.

Not sure but there are many reusable ones you can take with you that are available on Amazon that are just as good and don't take up as much space.

Just put in "wine bottle protector for airline travel" on your Amazon search and all types pop up to choose from. I personally use the reusable neoprene sleeves but also have the plastic wine skins too. They all come in various shapes to accommodate any shape bottle. Having your own to use allows you to have protection for your bottles no matter where you decide to purchase as Gulmohar's is usually more expensive than other places in Philipsburg.

I have used the neoprene bags/protectors with limited success. The last time I used one it cost me a $150 bottle of scotch, a suitcase, and the clothes that were also in the suitcase. I will be purchasing several bottles of $100+ single malt scotch and have never had an issue with Gulmohar's protectors in the last 10 years or more.

Here's a question, because I don't know the answer--does Gulmohar's have any kind of a guarantee in that type of a situation, if you use one of their protectors? I never bring back liquor anymore, but I don't know, if I had paid that amount of money for a bottle of booze, I personally would put it in my carry-on.

But unless it was bought a a duty free in the airport it has to be in checked baggage.

I have never had a broken bottle using my neoprene protectors in the many trips to SXM and other places. Our luggage are hard sided and I am diligent in packing them with plenty of padding surrounding them using clothing and such. I bring home plenty of single malts in the top shelf category. Just returned with a LT of JW Blue (blend) in my checked bag along with many others. One of my favorites are the Glenfidich line and 18 yr McCallan.

The airbags are excellent, we once came back with 3 bottles in a bag and a frying pan, MJ liked to make sure she had a good fry pan. The bottles ended up fine and the frying pan was bent. I haven't brought anything back in a couple trips so can't answer if they have them still or not but you could call them. Also, they are handling the distribution of Blanton's I believe which is a good pick up of a Bourbon that has a few types that are not sold in the US. Excellent.

Cheers,
T

I had never heard of the bottle protectors until I saw it posted here. I researched a bit and realized they are a great idea. Amazon sells a set with an air pump that I will be ordering for our next air travel adventure. https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Reusable-Inflatable-Transportation-Cushioning/dp/B078LGG6WS

That's exactly what the ones @ Gulmohar's look like. I believe that they sell them for $2-3 each. Nice to know they are available online. Technically reusable but once inflated the only way to deflate them is with a sharp object. Cheap & secure. I have e-mailed Gulmohar's. Waiting on a response.
