Grand Case restaurants

Grand Case restaurants - 10/04/2019 01:31 PM

With our upcoming trip I'd like to know what restaurants are open in Grand Case. We didn't venture there last November so would possibly eat there one evening this trip. Other than the Lolo's, Bistrot Caraibes and Rainbow Club what else is open?

Thank you.

We had a lovely meal at Barrannco(not sure of the spelling) a little pricey but a great meal with beautiful views.

When we were there in July, in addition to Bistrot Caraibes we ate at L'Auberge Gourmande, La Villa, Piazza Pascal, and Spiga.

Hi Louisa

When we were in St Martin in March we ate in Grand Case at Barranco, Piazza Pascal, Auberge Gourmande, Bistro Caraibes, La Villa and Le Cottage.

Spiga, Rainbow and Le Pressoir were open but we didn't eat there.

We had very good to excellent meals at all of the restaurants we ate at and would go to any of them again.

If I had to chose a single restaurant it would be Piazza Pascal or Le Cottage depending on your mood Although certainly Barranco, Auberge Gourmande, Bistro Caraibes and La Villa were very good depending on which you prefer.

Barranco is lovely and absolutely beautifully designed and right on the water. We had a very pleasant meal there, although we have seen some mixed reviews.

We have had bad experiences at Rainbow and will not eat there again.

Le Pressoir is under new ownership and is trying a new concept. We decided to pass until we see more reviews on it.

We stuck to the main part of Grand Case and did not get down to Spiga.

Although not in Grand Case we also ate at Le Piment in the Village and Astrolabe in Esmeralda, Great meals in both.

Take care and hope you and David have a great trip

Ted

Louise--Other people have described what is open. If you look at our trip report from June, we found that the restaurants in Orient Village outshone Grand Case for right now. There is almost nothing open on the water in Grand Case, other than Rainbow, Barranco and the lolos. Especially on Friday nights, when there is entertainment and vendors, Orient Village is the place to be! Ocean 82 is supposed to be opening soon, not sure about that though.

Thanks, Carol. We have dined many times in Orient Village when we stay on the French side. I can't say we've dined there when staying on the Dutch side. Last time we were in the Village to eat was back in the Spring of 2017. If I can convince our friends to take a ride will return. Love Le Piment.

Our best meal last time was at Cote Plage, but Le Piment was also VERY good.

Haven't eaten at Cote Plage in years. Glad to hear it's still good

Where exactly in GC is Brannco?

It used to be an Italian restaurant, Eric says name used to be Il Nettuno. I couldn't remember the name of it.

It was Il Nettuno and it’s right in the main drag, waterside.

Louise....Our two favorite two restaurants in Grand Case have been Piazza Pascal and LaVilla. Now that Piazza Pascal no longer is owned by Donna and Pascal, can't speak how good it is....BUT.....LaVilla has been our annual go to place for a luscious French flared dinner. They also have a prix fix special that includes choice of appetizer....entree ...and dessert for a very reasonable price. Also...the service is FANTASTIC. It's been our must go place every trip for many many years now.

Ed, is LaVilla open for lunch?

Hi Carol

I did see your June trip report. When we were in St Martin on the French side in March we felt that the restaurants that we ate at in Grand Case (Piazza Pascal, Auberge Gourmande, Bistro Caraibes, La Villa and Le Cottage) were all back to their pre-Irma levels. Which is a very high level indeed.

We did eat at Le Piment in the village and was it very good as usual. We eat their every trip. And even then I feel the Grand Case food is still at a different level. So my sample size might be too small to say definitively that Grand Case is better than the village.

Next month we'll try a few more in the village. It's tough work, but someone has to do it.😋

Hi Ed

I knew that Donna was in Texas and that Pascal was interested in selling the restaurant, but as of March he hadn't yet sold it.

Did he in fact sell it between March and now?

Ted N Jan--Certainly, individual restaurants in GC are still great. But my point is that I think the OVERALL experience in Orient Village, right NOW, is much better, in terms of the overall experience of the area, and parking, in particular, which is very tough in Grand Case now, and there being almost no restaurants open on the water side in Grand Case. To me, it just feels kinda sad to be in GC when so much is still closed..

In Grand Case Le Pressoir and Temps de Cerices were bought by the new owners of Sol e Luna. They also bought the Oyster Pond place that once was named Le Frigate. For some reason I can't remember the name after le Frigate. Last year they served pizza but indicated a brand new menu with little emphasis on pizza. Le Pressoir was one of our favorite places and I'm sad that new owners plan changes.

PS they also bought Yellow Sub in the Village.

Sorry to hear that. After Irma they were open for lunch. I think because no-one came at night. We ate 4 lunches there in two weeks and Christopher was pleased and asked us to spread the word that they were open. I had hoped lunch would continue.

RonDon...then maybe since Irma they have opened up for lunch...but when we went by there in March to try to confirm a reservation for the evening...they were closed. Not sure if anything has changed since then.

I have not heard much about Piazza Pascal since it was sold. Donna and Pascal have moved to the USA now so things might be different.

Can anyone tell me if Sun Beach is open? If it is, is it only for dinner? Thanks.

I thought their cook bought the place from them so there shouldn't be a big change.

Their cook was Pascal He did most of it all on his own.

Back from a long trip in Europe, and cold, wet and windy in the UK, got most of our Hurricanes......Anyway, mainly for Carol. Think you are visiting soon and you were hoping to go to (mind gone completely blank)..oh yes Ocean 82. I think. Let me(us) know if it's open please, mind you, I doubt it, after what I saw last July/Aug but you never know as Pascal said it would be from Oct 1st.

bran--I honestly don't know that we will get to Grand Case this trip. We've been to Orient once and will be going back tomorrow in the morning. If we find out anything, will post here.

Work still being done on Ocean 82. Amaury said it should be open in a month or month and a half.
