Jetblue points

Jetblue points - 11/24/2019 01:30 PM

My travel plans to SXM in January were just radically revised by Jetblue. I made my reservations months ago using points. Neither flight has been canceled, but one leg is now described as "sold out". Does anyone know if passengers traveling on points are subject to being bumped by paying passengers? - I haven't been able to get a satisfactory answer from Jetblue. I understand that the airlines are in business to make money, but if traveling on points subjects you to being bumped, that should be advertised as it reduces the value of the points and certainly would make me think twice before purchasing points,

Did you already book your tickets? How was it revised? Once you book I’m pretty sure whether your paying cash or points there is no difference. Guess I don’t understand what happened to your booked itinerary.

I am with kim on this, once booked, you are booked regardless of the means.

To me, it would just mean that nobody else can book that leg--not that your already booked seats have been taken away from you. I have never heard of anyone booked already being bumped.

On rare occasions (with most airlines), it does happen but only after asking for volunteers first and that usually takes care of it. I would for sure show up early if I know the flight is sold out.

JetBlue doesn’t overbook so the only risk of bumping is if they have an equipment change from a larger plane to a smaller one (like A321 to A320).

I certainly understand that people get bumped, but that is on the day of the flight--not two months before travel date.

Tim--It sounds like your flight has just become sold out, after you booked, which should be none of your concern. Make sure you check in as required three hours before your flight and you should be fine. Do you have a seat assignment? If so, I think you're fine. If you DON'T have a seat assignment, get one. I don't think that Jet Blue has any types of seats that you have to pay extra for a seat assignment, unlike AA and Delta..

Not sure I understand, the OP is going in January.

I think that's the "not two months before travel date" reference as opposed to at the gate..

I have never heard of anyone with a confirmed reservation (points or otherwise) having their reservations cancelled....unless, as was mentioned, there was a equipment issue but even then they should have a plan B and present the traveler with options

Edit: Just being curious and having no idea what day the OP is flying on I checked every Saturday in January BOS/SXM and found at least two/three flights both ways every Saturday which I believe is the most popular travel day to/from SXM

With that said there is no reason why the op wasn't put on an available flight

I booked months ago and paid with points - actually had to purchase some extra points to do -

Tim. What exactly are you asking? Has your flight been cancelled or have you been bumped?

Re: Jetblue points - 11/24/2019 09:51 PM

I had seat assignments - but they've pit me on a different flight now

I have been bumped off of a flight that was not canceled but now is shown as full - I've have been put on a more less convenient flight.

Wow, OK, that's interesting. You know that you do have the right to cancel and get your points (and I assume money) back?? Probably that doesn't help you though?

Jet Blue does charge extra for some of their seats.

I meant they do not charge for seat assignments, as compared to AA and Delta, that both sell seats that have no assigned seat at all until check in.

Tim,

Not sure if Im getting the full gist of your JB problem but if I’m understanding you correctly, I would call back and explain the situation slowly and clearly once again, and if the CSR who takes your call can’t make it right I would then ask to speak with a supervisor.

If you were booked on a flight and selected seats as part if your transaction, unless the equipment was changed and/or the flight was totally cancelled, once you were booked there should NOThave been changes made. And if you actually bought JB points in a cash transaction I would think they have an absolute responsibility to get you back on your original flight.

Again, that’s IF I’m understanding what has happened with your reservation.

You understand it perfectly - I'm planning on spending most of Monday on the phone with Jetblue - I was just curious if this had happened to anyone else. - And thanks to everyone for their input. I'll report back if I get any clarification

Good luck!

Re: Jetblue points - 11/25/2019 11:05 AM

That was going to be my suggestion, Tim: that you call JB directly to find out what is going on. I have booked JB with points my last 3 trips to SXM. I generally make the reservation as soon as the seats are released, and have never had this happen to me. As Pat said, "good luck"! Let us know what happened/happens.

Re: Jetblue points - 11/25/2019 12:41 PM

May not be as convenient but makes more sense that a complete cancellation. You can always call them to change to a more convenient flight if there is one. No fee if THEY made the change in your original.

Still don't understand the bump off a full flight thing if you had seats assigned. I would call them and ask for an explanation which, most likely, will be a change in aircraft type

Re: Jetblue points - 11/25/2019 01:31 PM

Since JB puts on more Saturday flights after first posted flight is full, it may be that ---and I don't know what you originally booked-- if your booking was via NY or other, they may have put you on the added direct flight and you're making out since the direct costs more (points or money) that via NY.

I don't believe you are subject to "bumping", just being put on another flight. We'd need exact details.
