This story has had so many twists and turns, I just hope the World Bank financing happens at this point.

Such a national disgrace and you would think embarrassment for the SXM government. It just seems to me that airport should have been long ago fixed and open but you got a bunch of the same old ego filled seemingly corrupt politicians fighting over control of the money so nothing happens. So they delay delay delay issue after issue all while crapping on their own countrys future. Shocking that the locals don't speak up more to this outranges behavior and lack of real action or results. The Dutch must be totally disgusted with what seems to be greed or is it just Gov incompetence...or both. Lets hope someone is really able or cares to get this done soon. SXM is a lovely island and people and. they deserve a lot better.

I wondered that as well but does it have something to do with the World Bank? I was also confused as to if this was ALL agreements or just one.

duh Answered my own question. Didn't know it before, but the World Bank is headquartered in DC. Don't know why I thought it was somewhere in Europe.

Continue to be disappointed with how Sxm is managed . What came first the
Chicken or the Egg . They do not appear to know the answer . Too bad really !

If it wasn't so sad and serious an issue, you could almost turn this into an old Laurel and Hardy slapstick comedy, or an "après vous, Alphonse" scenario. They just don't seem to care that in an economy that depends upon tourism, if they do not have an up-to-date and fully functioning airport, people may start to look elsewhere. Lots of other islands are putting money into their key tourist infrastructure. The egos and apparent graft mindsets of so many of the politicians are just mind-boggling! Let's hope that at some point economic self-interest and common sense might prevail.
