Roxies

Roxies - 01/22/2020 08:14 PM

Anyone been to Roxies? Was looking forward to trying it but doesn't seem to be too crowded. Also heard they are very expensive AND they charge for chairs/umbrellas. I wouldn't mind expensive, if the food is very good but not willing to pay for chairs if I'm eating and drinking there. Other beach bar/restaurants (Mary's Boon, Katakters) don't charge and the beach is the same beach, if not better there.

Honestly, I would go there for a Happy Hour drink or for dinner, not for the beach. I would not go in the water there. Mary's Boon and Karakter, you can swim in the water there if you like.

Why not go for the beach there Carol? Didn't go myself but the sea was like smooth glass(seems a very protected area) and saw people in the water and standing up with a table drinking Champers. Very comfortable chairs as well. Agree though that Mary's Boon is a great beach but if that gets rough and busy with people, Roxxies is not a bad alternative. It does have a South Beach vibe about it and more upscale than most but different to all the rest. Well that's jmo.

We went to Roxxy for drinks one evening after dinner, and again for drinks and dinner another time. The drinks run around $10 each, and they are excellent, and good-sized. The evening we had dinner, several at our table of six were very happy with their meals, but a couple of us felt ours were overpriced. I don't think I'll go there again for dinner, but would definitely go for a cocktail.

As for the beach, it's common knowledge that the water there is contaminated with raw sewage.

And just to be clear, the actual name is "Roxxy Beach" and not to be confused with a small restaurant named "Roxy's Corner", located in the fish market in Simpson Bay.

Never been to either. Roxxy Beach looks pretty upscale where Roxy's Corner is a lolo type place. Roxxy Beach had implemented a fixed price menu ($29 from what I recall) that did not look too bad but no idea if it is still in effect.

Oh wow. Good thing it was too windy to swim while we were there. We laid out on the beach for a little while and I almost went in the water but decided not to. I noticed the water looked different on that part of the beach! I guess I now know why!

I'm not running out to pay Manhattan prices for drinks and dinner!!! When there are so many places that have a better bang for the buck!! I have not heard to many good things about this place.

Re: Roxies - 01/24/2020 09:32 PM

My concern is the noise. I've heard it is extremely noisy at night. We own 8 weeks at the Villas at Simpson Bay, so the super loud noise every night would be a big problem for us. We'll be there Sunday, so I guess we'll see...

Would be interested to see what the situation is with noise, but I think you are far enough away. I pity those poor folks at Royal Palm though, when they re-open.

Stopped at Roxxy Beach 2 days ago to check it out. Nice looking place. Specifically asked if there was a charge for beach chairs/umbrellas. We were told that if you eat there would be no charge.

Huh, interesting. Either the other poster was mistaken, or they decided to change their policy.

Still. Even with free loungers I would not go there for a beach day if i couldn't get into the water.

I don't go in the water at Royal Palm when staying there either, but it is nice to have a chair to sit on. The view is nice anyway.

Wow, Scuba. That’s something else we agree on....... but I would NEVER go in the water there.

Years ago, long before the proliferation of restaurants on the water with their own docks in Simpson Bay we used to take catamaran day trips from Kimsha beach and we were often warned to pass on swimming there by the tour trips even way back then. I’m pretty sure the situation has only gotten worse over the years.

Re: Roxies - 01/25/2020 01:44 AM

The drinks are more expensive, but with that said they are larger than most places as well and served in nice glass wear. I expected to feel overcharged based on what I had heard, after stopping there for a cocktail I thought they were well worth it for what you got. Try it, even if just stopping for a cocktail. Note that the small plates looked pretty good as well.

As for the noise, stayed at Atrium and it was not an issue. Went there, and it was never too loud and actually the music was not too bad when there. A bit techno but not bad, and a crazy person in our party got them to play a Barry Manilow song which was hilarious. "At the Copa, Copacabana, the hottest spot north of Havana!" Now get those lyrics out of your head! LOL

I think we ended up going there three times, twice for cocktails and once for dinner. Heard rumors going in, dismissed most of them after.
Cheers!

If I'm on a lounger getting hot I need to be in the water. Pool or surf.

Re: Roxies - 01/27/2020 08:21 PM

Nice to hear, as we will arrive at the Sol Y Mar apartment villa tomorrow at about this time. Our private pool area is below the Atrium,,waved at many people on their balconies last time. We love that area...wondered about all the horror stories about Roxy....we have our own music playing anyways, so wasnt' too worried about it. Will try Roxy's probably once.....as it is right there. Going to miss Marty's gyros,,,I loved them. I have been in the water there to get on Sea Doos, etc. probably will go to other beaches on a beach day. No worries for swimming as we have a pool. Can't wait to arrive...been shitty weather up here in the land of the north, lol. Also, moving over to La Terasse for our second week when the rest of the crew leaves,,,will be our first stay there in a one bedroom. Will be sure to give a report when able. Cheers
