SXM Labour laws have always been pro employee anti employer. Hard to dismiss employees and promotes a mostly don’t care labor force for those that want to play the Gov system. Its a joke compared with most parts of the world that wants to grow there country and economy cause investors shy away for that kind of mess. Another example of backwards thinking 🤔 imo

Considering the need for development and rebuilding this is another unneeded obstacle. The government should get out of the way and support the business community, focus regulations on critical areas only.

I understand the desire to encourage local workers, but as I said, the execution, to require government officials to sit in on interviews, and possibly nix hires, is just crazy..

There was a meeting in Parliament regarding this issue yesterday. Hopefully this policy will be modified, as it is terrible.

"Just as interesting, SHTA noted, most work permits granted last year (25 per cent) were for the adult entertainment sector. 'SHTA would like to know if this industry is going to be forced to follow the same new labour rules – keeping a list of locals qualified for the job and having a government employee sitting in on the interviews.'"
LOL
(The answer, of course, being no, because they pay the biggest bribes)
