Volga-Dnepr Russian IL-76 Charter Cargo Airline plane flight originated in the Netherlands and stopped in Gander, Newfoundland on the way down.

Probably Dutch Govt cargo/med supply shipment.

Same plane that landed after Irma.

The Ukraine Antonov 124s have been very busy flying stuff out of China. Interesting to see where this big plans are going. Even the big 225 is flying and it rarely goes anywhere. https://flightaware.com/live/aircrafttype/A124

This is what landed in 2017 Irma. Antonov225-02

Re: Russian big plane - 04/18/2020 01:23 PM

I read on another site, that a Russian plane landed on Saturday bringing medical supplies from Holland to fight the virus.

Re: Russian big plane - 04/18/2020 01:27 PM

Well, that's what it says here, that the plane came from Holland..

Re: Russian big plane - 04/18/2020 03:11 PM

Judging by how big this thing is, I'll bet it will have to use every inch of the runway to get off the ground.

Re: Russian big plane - 04/18/2020 03:14 PM

Getting off the ground, it presumably would be quite a bit lighter than when it landed though, no?

Re: Russian big plane - 04/19/2020 05:01 PM

A second Volga-Dnepr IL-76 freighter landed this morning, coming from Maastricht by way of Gander. The first IL-76 has returned to Maastricht.

Re: Russian big plane - 04/19/2020 05:15 PM

This is a monster, but not the IL76 that landed yesterday which is quite a bit smaller

Yes .

Re: Russian big plane - 04/20/2020 02:18 AM

The plane pictured and listed is not the plane that landed on SXM after Irma. The Russian cargo plane that landed after Irma was an Antonov AN-124-100M. The runway at PJIA(Sxm) is neither long enough or wide enough to support either the landing or takeoff of the Antonov AN-225.

Re: Russian big plane - 04/20/2020 12:11 PM

Russian cargo plane just left PJIA at 8:08 AM. watched it going on webcam.

Re: Russian big plane - 04/20/2020 12:29 PM

Yes , heard it leaving .

Re: Russian big plane - 04/20/2020 05:38 PM

AN--124 has 4 motors, AN-225 has 6 motors........124 on steroids.

I didn’t remember a 6 motor job landing at SXM. I think it brought a water plant?

Re: Russian big plane - 04/20/2020 05:46 PM

Ventilators
Posted By: boucharda

Re: Russian big plane - 04/20/2020 07:20 PM

I don't understand why the biggest cargo aircraft in the world would be needed to bring ventilators to an Island with 67 confirmed cases ...12 which have recovered and 10 have passed away. even including the surrounding islands it would be a stretch....and how many intensive care rooms are there on SXM to deal with all, these ventilators. That size plane could supply NYC plus NJ....

I would assume it's a major supply restock flight....of everything.

Only an opinion....

Re: Russian big plane - 04/20/2020 07:23 PM

It brought what St Maarten, Saba and Statia needed.
Posted By: boucharda

Re: Russian big plane - 04/20/2020 07:37 PM

I am amazed that those islands together have the resources, medical personnel and ICU beds (and actual need) to utilize a huge cargo plane full of ventilators....but I will defer to boots on the ground
Posted By: BillandElaine

Re: Russian big plane - 04/20/2020 07:57 PM

It was not full of ventilators, but much needed medical supplies. The one with ventilators and beds was here prior.

Re: Russian big plane - 04/20/2020 08:16 PM

You would not believe how big that Ruskie aircraft is....I flew in a C5 Galaxy rescue mission from BOS to Frankfort en-route to Bam, Iran and that plane is freaking HUGE,,,just drive the Expedition in the front and have plenty of room around it,,,,,we couldn't use the C5 to Bam so went with a C141 but most of our personal stuff (all) had to be shipped out days later

...and the Ruskie plane is bigger than the C5

Our young Nephew flew the KC - 135 over the Baltic Ocean , Finland , Bosnia and alot of other countries in 2016. Now he flies much bigger ones.

This isn't the biggest cargo aircraft in the world. That would be the Antonov AN-225.

Does anyone know when the big plane will be taking off? I don't want to miss it.

Is anyone on TTOL have info on the flight plan?

I have been doing some digging but I can't find any firm information yet. Based on the last Volga-Dnepr Airline flight that left SXM on 4/18/2020, right now I'm going to guess that it will leave early in the morning around 6 am on Wednesday 4/22/2020.

Re: Russian big plane - 04/21/2020 10:52 PM

Sometime in the morning .
Posted By: Bahston

Re: Russian big plane - 04/21/2020 10:53 PM

There is no departure listed in Flightaware, which suggests that no Flight Plan has been filed. I would expect the flight to leave very early on Wednesday. One of the two return flights left at 06:08, and the other at 08:08.
