Doubt you would get a sunburn, but your eyes and lungs will be hurting big time. You would be crazy to go to the beach in this, very difficult to breathe. That's not rain clouds!

The only good thing is the dust is supposed to diminish the formation of Tropical Storm activity.

And according to the Daily Herald

Quote
While the dust has a negative effect on air quality, it also plays an important ecological role, such as fertilising soil in the Amazon basin and building beaches in the Caribbean.

It also seeds the ocean on it's way here. Just makes it hard to breathe.

I presume it puts more dust/sand in ocean floors.

Lots of nutrients beneficial to sea life. I'll get Bill to give me a reference when he comes back from getting his hair cut for the first time since January

There is always a downside too.
"but an overgrown bloom can consume much of the dissolved oxygen in an area and create an anoxic dead zone."

Re: Sahara Dust - 06/22/2020 06:30 PM

Never have experienced Sahard Dust. How long does it usually hang around?
Posted By: SXMScubaman

Re: Sahara Dust - 06/22/2020 06:40 PM

It continues to blow on through with the prevailing winds. Could last for 3 days or longer depending on the size of the cloud coming across the Atlantic and what is continuing to feed it from the Sahara Desert.

Thank you. I always appreciate actual information rather that speculation, as in "I presume".
