My First Trip Report (second installment)

My First Trip Report (second installment) - 11/16/2020 03:43 PM

I am still here and happy to send some more notes and pictures from SXM. Let me start by saying that the weather has been some of the best that we have ever experienced. Saturday was very nice but Sunday was absolutely gorgeous with the water, here on Simpson Bay, mirroring that of the water at Mullet beach most days. Just a slow gentle roll as the water lapped the beach and as clear as you could ever hope. Very light clouds and just a mild breeze all day rounded out shear perfection.

Saturday was wonderful. As I stated earlier, we started off the morning by running over to Vesna for breakfast. No real lunch today as we were going to be cooking in and would be grilling before it got pitch black. I think everyone nibbled a little cheese and crackers in the afternoon. Dinner, as mentioned earlier, was Cowboy steaks grilled right on the deck with baked potatoes and fresh asparagus. Dinner was wonderful. We finished off the evening with our third game of Hand & Foot. I won for the second time, now I am leading 2 to 1 to 0 to 0.

Sunday started out with breakfast in the Condo, scrambled eggs with honey ham and sharp cheddar added. Fresh baguette, toasted, with Triple Creme (mild) Brie, jellie and bacon from our prior breakfast. Lunch during the day was more nibbling of cheese and crackers as well as a few chips. We all decided to go to Lee’s for dinner. We always do Lee’s at least once a trip and invariably we all ordered the rib plate with fries and slaw. Wonderful. We left and headed back to the condo for another evening of Hand & Foot. I feel very guilty to report, but I have now won for the third time out of 4 games and by a margin of 3000 points. I can feel the others starting to conspire and I am sure that there will be an insurrection in the near future.

Monday morning here now, and I have everything set up on the beach for our day on the beach and in the water. I have tons of pictures that have been taken already but most of them center on the areas that my lens will reach from our location near Mary’s Boon. I will say I am sorry but you will not find very many food pictures from our days on the island. I just don’t have the patience to let my food sit while I break out the camera to take pictures. I truly think that there have been times that I am starting to cut my food before the server has removed their hands from the plate. If I include too many pictures or if you have some requests that I can fulfill, please let me know. I will try to include a caption with every picture.

I will also try to catch up on some of the other threads and offer commentary from the island that might support the thread.

Again, thanks for your anecdotes of what sounds like a perfect trip. Hopefully we'll have some of those perfect surf days at Simpson Bay soon but if I were you, I'd be watching my back re your card game 'wins' so far - the natives may just become restless....

Sad to see the boat is still against the cliffs - I would have thought they might have taken some action by now to get rid of it, one way or the other. Once again, sad, but all things on 'islon time' I guess.

Seriously, your trip sounds perfect to me and I hope it continues in like fashion for the balance of your stay but know, and I'm betting I speak for everyone, we hope your trip comments continue.

Enjoy yourself and your special time with family and friends.

bdeely--thanks so much for the continuation of the report and the lovely pictures! Sounds like a great trip so far! It is sad that De Party Boat is still there. The owners are so disrespectful of the environment and their duty to it. I feel really sorry for those folks that own condos there and have to look at that hunk of junk all the time.

I hope the weather continues lovely for you. Enjoy!!!

Thanks for another installment. Glad the weather is to your liking. No $$ to move the boat (from the owners or lessor) so it sits as I doubt the government has the funds either. Looking forward to another installment.

Love the trip report, which sounds so much like "normal" life on vacation. Also, very interested in your games of Hand and Foot. I had to do some research as I had not heard of it before.

In normal times here, the family have cards nights. When next we can play, I plan to introduce this game. Thanks for the idea!

More pictures. Moments during the day that interest me.

It's 1 pm on Monday and we are currently experiencing our first rain storm since we arrived.

Thanks for the pictures! Love the energizer dog!!

Wow, that sure looks like a large structure at Karakter. Odd, considering they previously had to take down a deck that they built there. Guess that Karakter got approval to build, after making appropriate financial contributions.
