Delayed flights and testing times

Delayed flights and testing times - 03/31/2021 05:27 PM

What happens if your flight is delayed for some reason and the delay puts you outside your 72 or 120 hour testing window? Are you hosed?

We leave on 6/1(Tuesday) which is the day after Memorial day. I'm trying to time everything so that we have our results in time to submit them to EHAS, get approval, and have our bases covered before making the 3 hour drive to MCI airport. Our testing place told me today that the PCR tests take 3-5 days for results. The Antigen test yields results in 30 minutes. I'm thinking about getting the Antigen test on the Saturday before we travel. Once we have the results, I would complete the EHAS form and hope and pray we receive approval by Sunday. But then I started wondering what would happen if our flight should be delayed? We could wait until Sunday to get tested to give us more wiggle room, but then we have to worry about getting approval from EHAS in time before we leave. We will probably drive down to KC Monday night and do a park and fly, so would like to have everything done by Monday morning or early afternoon. Would appreciate insight and thoughts about the best strategy to cover all bases so we have a good plan going in.

TIA

I am not sure the EHAS portal application process is open on Saturdays and Sundays. I would do the PCR test and hope for the test result to be back in time. Most people say they are getting them faster than they expected. Fall back on the antigen test if you don't get results in time, but try to have your EHAS application in on that Friday as early as possible. With that Monday being a holiday, I would want my approval back by Friday.

Others have reported that they were not permitted to board the delayed flight, so I think that's an issue. EHAS states that it takes them up to 12 hours to approve your submission, so I would think you'd be safe to get your test on Sunday if your flight is on Tuesday. Even if you don't have everything in hand and printed before you drive to KC, you can still access your email and use the hotel's printer to print your paperwork. Were I in your position, that would be my plan.

Phillygirl....No way will we have PCR results by Friday if we test on Thursday....its 3-5 days before we get results. I was not aware that EHAS was not processing applications over the weekend. Can anyone confirm this? If so, this is going to further complicate things.

Georgia...that sounds like what I've been thinking. Testing on Sunday, complete EHAS and submit on Sunday, then hope we receive approval by Monday.

I'm assuming Memorial Day will not affect EHAS approval as it is a US holiday...correct?

Possibly Memorial Day is not a recognized holiday in SXM, but still, I would want to get approval Friday just in case. I am one that does two or three tests before a flight to make sure we are covered. In two of the three scenarios on our last flight, the 3-5 testing results came back the next day.

Antigen test is 48 hours not 72hours prior to last flight into SXM

You're absolutely correct. Saturday wouldn't work; it would have to be a Sunday test.

We were told our PCR test results would take 3-5 days and we got the results the next day. So it's hard to say when you'd get yours. We made an appointment for first and second of the day and while there we asked and was told they passed tests along at noon and 5 pm. Maybe you could ask if your area does the same and plan accordingly.

One of the places that told me 3-5 days, I called them to let them know we got the results the next day, they could not believe the lab processed them so quickly. With the numbers down, that probably helps a lot.

We got our PCR results the next day, but the testing site told us to expect that, as the lab is in the same city. Friends in Florida almost missed their flights because their swabs had to be sent to LabCorp in North Carolina for analysis. There are a lot of variables.

In the scenario for a Sunday antigen test, I wonder how easy it is to find a place that does Sunday tests. Love flying in on Tuesdays, but it does make it a little more difficult for the Covid testing protocols.

According to the EHAS website, for those traveling from the US, US territories and Canada, PCR test results must be submitted 120 hours prior to the last departure to SXM, not 72 hours. Rapid antigen test must be submitted within 48 hours of departure.

We have an appointment for a PCR test Friday morning for a flight on Tuesday.(not this Friday)
Hopefully this is good--so tired of worrying about this.

Down in SXM, we will be getting the rapid test on a Monday to return Tuesday, since the
labs aren't open Sunday.
