Still no vaccine passport - 08/16/2021 07:30 PM

Hawaii started accepting the vaccine card, but I don't see many other places doing it yet.

if 8 month waiting period is in place my target date is NOV.....but my daughter works as a health care professional and wouldn't surprise me if i get it a bit earlier. would love it if the vaccine passport becomes the norm.

One million people have already gotten the 3rd shot. You only need to wait 28 days after your 2nd shot to get it, as per the info on CVS website. Got mine yesterday from CVS ( 2nd shot was 5 months ago).

When it is approved, probably this week, they will suggest a booster 8 months +/- after your last Covid shot if there are no immunocompromising issues involved.

No clue where the 28 days comes from unless you have special medical immune system issues

Re: Still no vaccine passport - 08/18/2021 04:21 PM

Correct. As mentioned those with severely suppressed immune systems due to chemo/drugs/disease need the booster sooner than the general public. That will most likely be recommended at maybe six months for Pfizer and 8 months for Moderna

Re: Still no vaccine passport - 08/18/2021 05:00 PM

I was fortunate to get my third Pfizer shot last night. . I was in CVS at closing time and the pharmacist asked me if wanted my third shot. Good timing as my shots were completed in January. We are leaving for Greece and Italy Friday as long as my husband finally tests negative for Covid. He had it three weeks ago and we took a Abbott home test and is finally negative. Hope the PCR test at CVS agrees. We have already missed one week of our five week trip. And so it goes…..

Interesting. We do not currently qualify for the third shot yet, as our second shot was in March. I wonder if they are just allowing whoever wants it, to get it?? If so, I wouldn't mind getting it before our trip in October..

Re: Still no vaccine passport - 08/18/2021 06:00 PM

Go for it. We got the Pfizer second shot March 3rd and will get our 3rd as soon as they allow it. I'm 74 and my wife is 73 so we should qualify.

We got ours in April so not sure if we will be able to get a booster before our trip in October. At this point just hoping the numbers stop increasing.

Latest third shot info link

From the above link:

Quote
Here are key things to know about the booster dose roll-out and requirements:

Who is eligible for the booster shot? Fully vaccinated adults (18 years and older) who received two doses of an mRNA vaccine will be eligible.

When will people be able to receive an extra dose? Booster doses will be available starting Sept. 20, 2021.

How long after your initial vaccination do you have to wait? The booster dose will be administered to qualifying adults eights months after their second Pfizer or Moderna mRNA vaccine. For example, if you received your second vaccine dose on Feb. 1, 2021, you would be eligible for a booster Oct. 1, 2021.

What about people who got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine? US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said that he anticipates that those who received the J&J vaccine will also need a booster shot, but added that more data should come in the following weeks.

Scubaman--AGE is not the same as immunocompromised.. You are still supposed to wait eight months after your second shot, if not immunocompromised.

Re: Still no vaccine passport - 08/18/2021 06:31 PM

Correct....age does not come into play at all for #3

Re: Still no vaccine passport - 08/18/2021 06:50 PM

Yes I realize age has nothing to do with it. As I stated on my post "will get our 3rd as soon as they allow it". My 8 months will be in November but if they allow it earlier for me I'll get it.

I heard on the news, this morning, that age will be added into the
list of people who qualify along with the immunocompromised.
Who knows.....

But, you mentioned your age in a manner that implied it was a qualifying factor.

The age is 18 and above....link and excerpt posted above

I should add that the date in September when it will first be available is appropriate because they are still deciding if it will be the same as dose one and two or a booster geared towards the variants ...but in reality a month is not enough time to change the vaccine

As the Lurker posted, along with the original age protocols where age was part of qualifying for original jabs, my age WILL be a factor when it becomes available. Not looking for an argument.

Re: Still no vaccine passport - 08/18/2021 08:15 PM

As our pharmacist friend explained to us, The first dose and second dose of your Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine should be exactly the same, both chemically and from a dosage standpoint. The third dose is also the same. She also told us there is no reason to wait, as long as you are past the original waiting period for each type of shot. My wire falls into the compromised category, so that’s why we both able to get the 3rd shot. But, if you are not, there are always ways around it, if you really want to get it now.

Re: Still no vaccine passport - 08/19/2021 10:26 AM

Scuba....I stand corrected. The booster was APPROVED for all those 18+ years old BUT the DISTRIBUTION looks to be similar to the previous doses. Excerpt from a NYT article

Quote
The first boosters would probably go to nursing home residents, health care workers and emergency workers, who were the first to be vaccinated last winter. They would likely be followed by other older people, then by the general population. Officials envision giving people the same vaccine they originally received.

Lots of breakthrough cases of vaccinated people, like everything in life another roll of the dice.

Re: Still no vaccine passport - 08/19/2021 12:36 PM

I really don't consider it a "roll of the dice" when a tad over 98% of people hospitalized are unvaccinated.. I think of it as more a roll of the eyes why they didn't take advantage of what was/is offered to them
