Most of the larger groceries will have a good selection. Just be aware of the prices, especially at Market Garden. There was the Amsterdam Cheese Shop near the cruise ship pier and Bobby's Marina but I am not sure of their current status.

Good to know. Thanks. Much closer to where we stay than Philipsburg.

What kind of cheese are you looking for?? Super U has lots of cheese, as well as Carrefour..
Today we bought a whole wheel of gouda to take home at Carrefour. It was about 65 NAF..

When my wife and I were last on the Island March 2020 staying in Maho, the morning we were leaving I went over to the grocery store below La Terrasse. I bought a wheel of mild Gouda for $37.90, now I don't know if that is a good Island price but that same wheel in Canada is too expensive for my taste. That same wheel is still in my fridge in it's plastic I hope it's still good. If not there's another reason to return.

We really like the Old Amsterdam Gouda. Great at room temperature.

Ah Carol ( if I may ) I look at it as a fine bottle of wine, it only get's better with age, just like my wife and I.LOL There's going to be a lot rice crackers, olives pepperettes to buy before I finish 7.92lbs of cheese. There goes the beach bod.

Better eat it now. Cheeses age at different temperatures and humidity that are probably not in your wheelhouse.š

Whale Tail--I just couldn't wait that long..
We cut it up and put most in the freezer, and then bring it out, 1/4 of the wheel at a time.

Enjoy. You could vacuum parts of it and either freeze or refrigerate the rest.

That's what we did with the wheel we brought back from Curacao Which was cheaper there.. Vacuum pack and freeze and enjoy when ever.

If you like Brie - this is 100 times better!!! Supposedly you canāt get it in the states due to import issues and the taxes?? A ācheese mongerā told me that.

On my list for May. Thanks.

Kim, actually the reason you can't get it in the states is because it is illegal to import. The cheese is made from unpasteurized milk.

Any of the large stores on the french side will have a huge selection of cheeses (mostly french!), many different kinds and varieties! Plus they have the best yogurts for breakfast with some muesli!

My kids would be in heaven if I could bring them some proper camembert!

Re: Recommendations for Cheese - 10/07/2021 11:52 AM
Sunflower--we freeze gouda all the time. It loses some freshness, but when we can get a whole wheel for something like $36, we made some sacrifices..

By the way, the past couple of times here we have picked up this cheese at Super U in Marigot. It's basically goat cheese with papaya. SERIOUS dessert cheese. The french name is L'enrobe exotique.

Above is not a good picture at all, but it is a lovely cheese, if you like a sweet dessert cheese.
