ATL Delta Departure Question

ATL Delta Departure Question - 11/03/2021 11:55 AM

We have a direct flight from Atlanta to SXM in December, and I'm exploring options for parking and shuttles. From what I can tell, the recent flights for SXM have been leaving from concourse E rather than the international concourse F. If departing from concourse E for a direct flight, where would we check in? Just the normal domestic check in, or is there somewhere else we should go?

Normal domestic check-in. After checkin at a Delta counter, you will pass through security. Once through security, you can take the train to E. It doesn't matter which Domestic Terminal you are checking in. Look for flight departures and loads and pick the one that is expected to be the least busy.

Is it possible to check in at the international terminal just to be closer to concourse E, or would the only option be going through domestic?

The plane train connects all terminals, once behind security you can travel to any concourse

Correct so worrying about parking at the closest garage is not worth the worry

My concern is if I can check bags at the international terminal if my flight doesn't actually leave from concourse F. When researching parking options, I came across this lot that mentions being able to use international departures even for domestic flights, but only if you're not checking bags. I know I'm actually flying internationally, but I don't want to show up at international departures only to be told I have to go to domestic because I'm not leaving from F.

if you are wanting to check bags but still show up initially at the International terminal, because it's close to parking, than you can take the ground shuttle between the International terminal and and another terminal pre-security. Explanation is below...

ATL Ground Transportation Pre-Security (Landside)
You can travel between the Domestic and International Terminals (without passing through security) by taking the airport shuttle service.

If arriving from the MARTA station or from other entry points on the western side of the Domestic Terminal, you need to enter through the W2 door into the South Terminal baggage claim area. From here, you can follow signs to Ground Transportation where you can pick up the shuttle bus to go to the International Terminal.

From the International Terminal, you can pick up the shuttle bus from the northern area of the terminal through doors A1, A2, or A3. The shuttle journey between terminals takes around 12 minutes.

Dvesc, I would contact Delta about your flight to confirm which terminal you’re leaving from. I’ve only used the International terminal for flights to SXM, the last time in April of this year. My wife and I are heading back the day after Thanksgiving and I haven’t received any notification of using a different terminal.

We use Peachy Parking since their indoor lot services the International terminal. They’re frequently running promos for discounts on Groupon so you can usually get indoor parking for the same price as a outdoor lot. Make sure, whoever you decide to go with services the terminal you need. There’s a ton of remote lots but they don’t all serve the International terminal.

If you find that Delta is using the domestic terminal, please post here so I don’t go to the wrong place!

Thanks!

Most any departing flight can change gates or terminals, even just prior to departure. I have departed from both domestic and international when using Delta /ATL. It is best to check the day of departure and even then it can change last minute so check the monitors once at the airport.

Here's what's showing up for the flight this morning. The gate is E, but "international terminal" is listed. I assume that means it would be OK to check in at the international terminal for this particular flight. I have emailed the airport for confirmation, but I'll also try Delta. The decision I'm trying to make now is where we should reserve a parking spot. As mentioned, some of the lots only serve the international terminal, and others only serve domestic. Ideally, we'd like to get dropped off where we're supposed to check in rather than making the trek to the other side.

You can check in for this flight at the international terminal.

Here's what I was told by the Delta chat person: "I can assure you that there will be no problem if you check in the international terminal. It will be the same process with domestic for checking in your baggage." I guess we'll go with the international terminal and parking and hope for the best. Thanks for all of the help.

Another consideration is your return to ATL from SXM. If you exit the airport in ATL your luggage, if you're traveling with any, will come up in Terminal F, even if you land back in Terminal E. So the pickup to get back to your car needs to be from F. And we've done both domestic and international check in on our way to SXM.
