Water on French side off - 05/19/2022 08:59 PM

A power outage last night caused a problem with the water supply and Collective is advising not to drink the water till further notice. Schools closed at noon because of this too.

Communique from Saur St Martin (water company on the French side):
Following an electrical malfunction that occurred on Wednesday evening, beyond our control and impacting the Galisbay drinking water production plant (UPEP), SAUR Saint-Martin is forced to interrupt the drinking water supply. on the whole island from 9:30 a.m. this Thursday, May 19, 2022, for an indefinite period.
The replenishment will depend on the return of electrical service and the resumption of production to restore safe levels in the reservoirs.
The SAUR Saint-Martin and EDF teams are working closely to restore the situation as soon as possible and thank the population for their patience and understanding.
Next update:12:00 p.m.

It seems like the electric on the Dutch side and the water on the French side, go off as often and as long as they please, with no end in sight.

The advantage here at GCBC is they make their own water. Maybe they'll put in their own power supply some day.

Good for you! I didn't know that. Club O used to generate both water and electric, I believe, but I wasn't aware anywhere else did, at least water anyway.

Orient Beach Hotel (Florence from Club O) have their own water supply.
Our last trip we moved from a Villa when the water continued to be shut off.
Beautiful place to stay!

carib cheers

Makes me rethink staying on the French side on a future trip. No water is definitely an issue for most people.

Came on at 5pm today. Couldn't pay me enough to stay on French side. Nice place to visit but stay, no.

I just checked as I was concerned our L' Auberge Gourmande dinner might be at risk tonight. Nope, they are open. Whew!

That's why there's chocolate & vanilla as Carol often says. We only stay on French side & occasionally visit the Dutch.

Have fun there. Not for me. Water is very important and it happens too often on French side.

..and electric goes off WAY too often on the Dutch side. And while some resorts have back up generators, not all resorts do and most condos do not either.

Correct. We sometimes lose power at home. That's why three days after I get home our whole house Generac is being installed

Many properties on the French side have cisterns. It is an island and one learns to adapt.
