Only option is to fly American out of Miami. Not happy.

Susie--You were booked on Jet Blue?? They seem to be cancelling pretty much everything from FLL.

I just looked because we have JB FLL flights booked. Looks like they have canceled Thursday flights for December (except Christmas week), all of January and the first 2 weeks of February.

Grab a Cuban sandwich and cafe cortada at La Carreta.

Mikel--when are you scheduled to fly? I would have zero level of confidence in ANY Jet Blue flight from FLL right now.

Yes Jet Blue I forgot to mention. Even Spirit not flying from FLL.

Another question does anyone know if American will accept JetBlue points?

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/19/2022 01:12 PM

Susieville--that's a very good question. ALLEGEDLY, they were supposed to be booking using each other's points now, but I don't know whether they actually are or not. We were supposed to fly Jet Blue from FLL to SXM this June and of course they cancelled on us. Fortunately we were able to get FF tickets on AA for a very good price in miles. The JB flight was booked with JB miles, which at this point, I would love to use on AA. If anyone is able to use JB points on AA, please post.

Tried rebooking with AA this am for 3 hours.. no go. Tried 2 separate browsers. On both I can select my flight, get all our info in and poof.. back to the search page. App has been in perpetual little circle of death "loading" mode for about 45 solid mins. Now that we can't talk to a real honest to goodness human being without waiting an hour on hold and they have everyone relying on websites and apps to do literally everything, the least they could do is make sure their tech actually WORKS!!

FatCat--sorry that you had problems. However, I personally have always had a MUCH better experience on the AA site, versus Jet Blue. JB's website is HORRIBLE, always! And generally to talk to a person, it is six HOURS....... Just sayin'.

Oh yeah Carol JB's website is a hot mess. I have found their app to be better though. I have spent hours on their website trying to get flights booked.

Finally got AA's app to search for flights, picked the ones I want, put in our info... and poof.. right back to the search page. So their system is just messed up for who knows what reason.

Last time I needed to call AA it was answered instantly on the 4th of July. I couldn't believe it and when I commented to the agent she told me the best time to call is early morning and late in the evening as that is their slowest times.

Make sure you check the box you agree to their terms or it won't proceed.

That is usually true with any airline or other company, the earlier the better. I usually try to call very early (if a 24-hour operation) or within minutes of when customer service opens.

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/19/2022 03:12 PM

Trouble is there is no designated line for customer service or relations with AA. You need to talk to an agent first then try to have them connect you to customer service rep which is only open from Monday through Friday. Can't remember the hours but not a 24 hr day for them.

Thanks. Not seeing anything like that. Where is that located?

All it says at the bottom of the page after I have typed in our names, dob, ff#, known traveler, etc is as follows:

By clicking Continue, you confirm and represent that the child is not directly providing their information to American. I also agree to the Hazardous materials policy and the liquids, aerosols and gels regulations.

I type everything in, hit Continue, and I go right back to the Advanced Search page

Have you checked the box that you accept or decline the trip insurance? There is also one that asked if info is correct.

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/19/2022 03:46 PM

Okay, another conundrum.

I can book the flights with cash Roundtrip, as in it allows me to get all the way to payment. But I am trying to book each leg separate.
AND I can book my return flight to the States one way without issue (I do not wish to do that yet)
BUT I can't book the one way flight down to SXM no matter how many times I try.

This makes no sense. I know the usual is you get a message on most airlines that says you have to provide proof of a return ticket warning but I am not even getting that (and "technically" I still have a one way return ticket to the States with JetBlue though I get the feeling that too is not long for this world).

I know pulling my hair out will not benefit the situation but this has me mystified.

If you know how to clear your cookies, I would do that, and then re-start your computer.

Oh I know that box and I haven't seen it. Could be that we are booking refundable Business fares or that we haven't gotten to the payment page yet.

Hope you get it resolved. Sometimes websites make you want to pull your hair out!!

Make sure the "one way" box is checked. Sometimes when you are redirected back to the select dates page it reverts back to "round trip".

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/19/2022 04:42 PM

Are you trying to book with miles or cash on way down? Whatever you are using make sure that appropriate box is still checked.

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/19/2022 05:10 PM

Okay, via FlyerTalk forums I think this is an issue with the terms of this particular fare.. I think.

AA has these "flexible" fares which you pay a bit more for and they are then supposed to be refundable (possibly with a fee??) but they also seem to have all sorts of stipulations to them that are listed exactly nowhere while booking (blackout dates, roundtrip requirements, minimum stays, advanced purchase, etc). I am wondering if this is the issue though why they would allow a customer to select a flight that CAN NOT be booked is beyond me.

I've tried about 40 dummy booking with all different options, party size, removing the kid, trying different flights on the same day at the same fare etc just trying to narrow down the issue. This is the best I can come up with.

I'm done. I need lunch. hungry

OK, I have had luck in the past with calling AA and getting them to call me back. You might try that.

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/19/2022 05:41 PM

Why don't you just call and choose the option for them to call you back? I have done that. While it was several hours, they DID call back and I got what I needed.

Carol, my sister-in-law's JB flight (to SXM) is Feb. 23rd and as of now, they resume Thursday flights on Feb. 16th. She and my wife return on a Friday later in March. I agree there is a strong possibility that at least the Thursday flight in February may be cancelled in the future. Will just keep an eye on it.

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/19/2022 06:45 PM

Success!! After getting something besides coffee into my system (I am not a breakfast person in everyday life), I called and got a real person immediately. I was shocked when it literally went to a ring instead of hold music as soon as the robot stopped asking me questions. We are all booked on fully refundable Business tix (it was a really good mid week deal). Here's hoping JB keeps our weekend flight back so I don't have to go through this again.

That is great news. Did you ask what the problem was trying online?

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/19/2022 09:04 PM

Absolutely!! I was thrilled to get that load off my mind. I like getting things all worked out way ahead of time.

The phone rep herself had the system buck on her while she was trying to take my payment. She thankfully had placed the reservation on a short term hold so she didn't have to go back in and input everything again. She said more than likely I didn't do anything wrong. It was just some glitch in the system.

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/19/2022 09:17 PM

Good to know it was a glitch and nothing you were doing wrong. I'm with you as we like to get ours done way early for best prices and miles. That is why we already have ours booked for next May/June flights. Even have our extended week booked and confirmed with Destination Exchange at Flamingo.

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/20/2022 11:47 AM

So it seems like Spirit/Frontier is still flying FLL to SXM in January for about $450. I have added 1 checked and 1 carryon. American from Miami is over $750. Cab fare to Miami is about $100 each way, where I can get a friend to drive me to Ft. lauderdale. I know all about Spirit but this is an option for me since money is a consideration.

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/20/2022 12:53 PM

I thought you said that Spirit was no longer flying from FLL? I assume you mean, two different planes, as there is no Spirit/Frontier merger YET. That is a big difference in price, for sure. The thing I don't like the most about either of them is that there is only one flight per week from FLL. Best wishes with your choice.

So it seems that I was wrong. Couldn’t find anything first time I checked. None of the seats were taken yet, so let’s see what happens. Could someone else double check for me please for January
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: January flight from Fort Lauderdale cancelled. - 07/20/2022 01:46 PM

Spirit looks like it's scheduled to fly every Saturday in January. Frontier looks like they are only flying from Orlando to SXM at the moment..
