Bamboo House

Bamboo House - 08/14/2022 04:58 PM

I believe others may have posted about this place (perhaps jazzgal) but last night was a first for us. Count me as one who was impressed. Really well done with some of the most beautiful and panoramic views of the island. I was told by someone who would know that it was a house that was originally going to be turned into a brothel but they could never get the required permits. Thus....it was purchased and turned into a beautiful restaurant. I thought the prices were reasonable as well. We will return.

If you look carefully at this one, you might see a local celebrity.

Carib Lee,

Appreciate the report as we leave this Thursday for 18 days and have Bamboo House on our second week list .
Usually don't eat sushi while in SXM but you can only eat so much French food.
Our friend on the island who enjoys good food also recommended Bamboo.
We did like Bamboo Bernie's as it was convenient to Royal Islander

Did you enjoy sushi or off the cooked section?

Wife likes sushi but we both ordered off the main menu. She had short ribs and I had the salmon. Both were excellent.

CaribLee--I do not like sushi at all, but didn't realize they had a regular menu. The setting looks fantastic.

CaribLee--sorry, you'll have to tell me.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/14/2022 06:45 PM

I knew it would be tough given the shot. Bob Barron (Bobby Jagger) from Hole In The Wall's Holey Friday is at the far left next to the empty chair (my chair).

Lee,
The celebrity is the singer Bobby πŸ˜ƒ.
I also see the wife of someone else I know πŸ˜‰

I knew I could count on you Dr. Phil.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/14/2022 06:52 PM

Yep Bobby Jagger who is a popular singer on the island and sings at the hole in the wall every Friday night.
Love the pictures Lee. Keep them coming. Cheers

Re: Bamboo House - 08/14/2022 06:52 PM

Carol......sushi is just one of the menu offerings. Their full menu offers steaks (they recommend the filet), short ribs, mahi mahi, salmon, etc. Something pretty much for everyone.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/14/2022 07:01 PM

Lee,
Bamboo House looks pretty open to the elements.
Looks like a great view. I will have to try it. Do they have a plan when a squall comes along and it rains hard ? 😲

Hi Carol , I also have eased up on the Sushii, however when one visit's a restaurant that has Sushii as it top line of food , the other food on the menu does't be wow.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/14/2022 07:16 PM

Okay, then. I must have missed it so can someone tell me exactly where this restaurant is located. It looks absolutely gorgeous and as a non-sushi eater, knowing there is a regular menu puts it at the top of our must try list for our up-coming November trip.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/14/2022 07:29 PM

Across the street from Carrefour in Cole Bay (up the hill a bit). You can park at Carrefour (close to the street) and catch a shuttle up to the restaurant or they do have valet parking at an additional charge (we took the shuttle).

Re: Bamboo House - 08/14/2022 07:30 PM

Phil....most of the tables are exposed to the elements but they do have one section that is covered.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/14/2022 07:39 PM

Yes that is the appeal. I suppose I will go on a good weather day πŸ˜ƒ.
A couple years ago, I was sitting at Avantika in Simpson Bay on the rooftop underneath a parasol umbrella. Started out with beautiful weather and then there was a torrential downpour. The server could not get to our table for about 30 minutes. By then, we all had our shoes off and our feet in the water πŸ˜‚

Phil.....Bob was visiting at the pool today. He enjoyed the pics.

Nice Lee.
I believe Bobby visited you at the pool last time you were there. In fact the two photos that I posted were clipped from a video I made of him the day after he was at the pool. He was singing Margaritaville but inserting Sint Maarten ville πŸ˜ƒ

Enjoy 😎

Just put this on my early November list. I also was unaware of full menu. Thanks All

Re: Bamboo House - 08/15/2022 10:42 AM

To no one in particular:

I thought the duck nachos were to die for. Just loved them!
The shuttle doesn't start until 6 p.m. The night I went, the shuttle was caught in traffic getting to work so we had to drive up in order to make our reservation time. They waived the $5 valet fee as a result. I highly recommend the shuttle as parking by the restaurant is very limited.
I recognized Bobby Barron right away. Very nice pictures, Carib!

Re: Bamboo House - 08/15/2022 12:53 PM

How does the shuttle work? It just pulls into the Carrefour parking lot? I assume there is a sign on the side of it?

Re: Bamboo House - 08/15/2022 01:21 PM

Thank you Jazzgal for giving me a way to introduce duck into my dining. I've always been curious (my wife not so much) but have never tried it. But I love nachos so this could be the way to do it. So it looks like The Bamboo House is now on the list. I also like the shuttle service and hope Carols question is answered.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/15/2022 01:27 PM

Carol.......I'm no expert as others made our arrangements but this is my understanding. Earliest reservation is 6:00 p.m. (which was the time of our reservation). If you arrive that early, you may have to call for the shuttle. Later in the evening it runs continuously and since it is a very short trip, I would assume it shows up every 10 to 15 minutes. Something else that is good to know.......happy hour lasts until 7:00 p.m. (two for one on their signature cocktails only) but it only applies to the bar. When we got there, we were seated at our table but then went to the bar for happy hour. At 7 we paid for our drinks at the bar and then returned to our table for dinner. Hope that helps.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/15/2022 01:29 PM

Also, one of the reasons for our early reservation was so we could enjoy the sunset with the fabulous views. Would definitely recommend.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/15/2022 01:39 PM

CaribLee--that definitely makes sense, to plan your meal around the sunset.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/15/2022 03:19 PM

Until recently we had never heard of this restaurant. Once we found out and given our love of sushi and their views it’s on our list to visit in October.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/15/2022 07:03 PM

I don't remember if there was a sign on the van or if the driver was wearing a shirt with the Bamboo House logo on it. When I went, my friend and I drove separately to Carrefour. When we realized the shuttle wasn't coming as it was caught in traffic, she got into my car and I drove to BH. When we were leaving and I was returning her to her car at Carrefour, the van was there; he asked us if we needed a ride. I think it will be pretty easy to identify.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/15/2022 07:04 PM

And I recommend reservations no earlier than 6:15 - 6:30 since the shuttle doesn't start running until 6:00.

Re: Bamboo House - 08/15/2022 07:14 PM

And one more thing. I recommend going on a Thursday, which is "Gatsby Night." They have live music that I thought was pretty good, and I'm a tough critic.
