In the distant past we tried out various beaches and determined we are happiest at the 2 beaches at GCBC. I do a bit of water activities (beer lifts in the water) virtually every day and am content staying close to the fridge and fresh water shower.
Thursday, we needed to pick up some essentials so off to the Ma Dou Dou store, getting a liter of Banana Vanilla and a half liter of Cafe. Off to Super-U for food for us and the cats. The Hope Estate store seems to stock less in the way of pates and rillettes than before, so probably need a follow up trip to Bacchus.
Dinner was at Yvettes with Mrs Cruzer having her usual conch and dumplings and I selecting the codfish cakes and pan fried snapper filet in a creole sauce. I got overzealous on the saltfish and forgot to snap a picture. Guess I'll do that on our Sunday visit (they close after Sunday for the rest of the month). This time the snapper seemed to have a thicker coating, and the sauce was on the side, but was satisfying nonetheless. My meal came with plantains, johnny cake, fries and salad. Total bill including 2 beers and a bottle of water was $50, without tip. Excellent food at a decent price.
Friday, we went into Phillipsburg to get me a new Casio G-shock as the solar cell in my old watch crapped out. Somehow I always buy one every 5 years or so in town, and have been buying those kinds of watches since getting certified to dive back in the early 80s. I also have about 10 Rolexes that I bought way back when on Canal Street in NYC for $8 apiece, but new batteries probably cost more than a new watch.
Visited Vince at Royal Jewelers and for the first time in a long time, left without a purchase. Lunch was at Caribbean Blend, and they were out of Grouper, so we had their grilled conch instead. That was even better than the grouper. I mentioned to the grillmeister that he should offer a half-and-half option. The 2 Ti-Punches were pretty satisfying too.
Saturday, we took an intentional late start to the Marigot market, noticing that no arts/crafts vendors were there--not a single one, because of TS Earl. Stopped by Miss Ebby's but only almond candies were left, no soup or boudin. Had my obligatory Mauby.
We were hearing all sorts of conflicting stories about when the storm was due, and decided to do a decent lunch later in Grand Case and not venture into town during the evening. The major threat of the storm was mostly heavy rains, but walking in heavy rain isn't our style. Wallowing in mud puddles still brings back fond memories of childhood, though.
Having spent about 15 minutes at the market, we came back to GCBC and I spent around 2 hours in the water, figuring no swimming later in the day. We decide to do lunch at Villa Royale (finally), Mrs C having the curried goat, Me the Mahi Mahi Tartar, and splitting a conch tempura. I'm a creature of habit for this combo, but as they seemd to have eliminated the coconut milk for the tartar, I might finally be able to try the trigger fish next time, which is supposedly excellent too.
Picture today are limited to shots of the beach and the sargassum coverage over 24 hour period ending around 8 this morning. Fortunately the Petite Plage side of the resort is cleaner.
