More Confusion with AA

More Confusion with AA - 11/23/2022 02:02 PM

To add to the confusion Carol experienced yesterday with trying to put tickets on hold or book with AA, I found some changes to my March itinerary and guess what...NO NOTIFICATION!

I logged into my account to check on available seats and to see if there were any changes. There was a notice (outlined in red) at the top of the page indicating my flight changed but it indicated to "check back soon to see what changed". When I scroll, I see the same flight numbers (DAY-SXM) for both legs (one way) of the flight but a 2h 15 minute schedule change for the CLT-SXM leg. While it gets me to the island substantially later, I was not comfortable with just a 40-minute connection in CLT. One little hiccup and I likely miss the connection. A MAJOR hiccup this year caused me to miss the connection and also overnight in CLT and lose a day on the island. I now have a 2h 15 min connection window.

It will be interesting to see if I eventually get notification of this change. I booked a miles ticket with the compensation from the fiasco from the trip this year. Not really any other options at this point and more changes would not surprise me. It is confusing to see the changes but to be told to check later for the changes. It is an airline and much of what they do make little sense.

As has been stated many times here, CHECK your flights yourself and check them often as you cannot depend on any airline to notify you of changes.

Perhaps they are updating their site or changing equipment (althought flight #'s and equipemnt is indicated as being the same as when booked) as there is no option to change seats, upgrade or do anything with either leg as of right now.

I don't remember whether it was AA, I actually think it was another airline, but I got that notification once "check back later to see what has changed". In my case, the change did not actually appear on the reservation for several days.

We are so fortunate these days to be able to book non-stop flights, to not deal with connections. As you said, you got really screwed over this year, so perhaps the later arrival and longer layover is for the best.

We use AA very often and get notifications ok. Either text or email if you have entered your contact information correctly. We’re flown all of them , all are far from perfect. And it’s extra difficult for airlines and schedules now with all the staffing shortages. If we can get there in a day no issues we are very happy and thankful! We wait months or years for a sxm vacation and few extra hours not going to matter.

I am signed up for notifications. Perhaps it will come in due course. Travel on any airline is not at all what it once was.

I also have had changes without notification or notification well after it appears on the reservation. I make it a point to check all my reservations frequently.

As for the change to the CLT departure time, my return flight to CLT in February was pushed back to 5:10 PM. Fortunately I had a long layover in CLT and should be OK. My thought at the time was that AA moved to a later departure time to allow more time for others to make the connection with a same day morning flight through CLT to SXM.

Yep, one has to constantly check themselves to be sure.

Still no notification. I have no problem with the change as it will make it much easier to make the connection. AA used to have two morning flights from DAY to CLT that would allow for the connection to SXM. I would always book the earliest flight as I would rather have the option for the later flight if there was a problem. I would rather sit in CLT for 2+ hours than take a chance on a 45-minute connection.

As of this morning, AA is showing just 3 daily flights from DAY to CLT. 6:44 am, 1:34 pm, and 5:15 pm. Delta only has one morning flight that would make the SXM connection. United is sometimes an option but just Sat. flights so the options are limited. AA was a better choice going to SXM (plus they gave me enough miles to book a one-way ticket after the fiasco from March of this year) and Delta on the return as I would have to overnight on AA for my travel day. It is not like flying from the NYC area with multiple airports and airline choices, along with non-stop flights.

The change is not the issue, it is the lack of notification but I have come to expect that.

We've had that experience too, with the "check back " notice, and it's definitely disconcerting. Must be some sort of hiccup in their system.

Very well could be. We are on day #3 of it not being updated or the ability to change seats.

Hope your trip is going good so far.

I noticed the change to my February SXM departure (posted above) on October 30th. The website and the AA app each stated that there was a change to the flight, but you had to figure out what it was.

This morning, one month later, I received the actual 'notification' email from AA showing what the actual changes were.

Glad you finally got the official notice. Still nothing from AA and the website is still showing the same thing, but it has only been a week since I noticed it.

And, this afternoon, the change notice was received in my email.
