I think the first race is at 9:55 SXM which is an hour behind use

I think they are actually AHEAD of us, according to the time on the SXM Island Cam camera. They look to be actually racing now.

Watching from Karactor now. Kind of like watching paint dry from the beach but I’m sure it’s exciting watching from a boat out close by.

Yesterday was just a practice day. Today was the first race day and conditions were perfect. I was on committee boat "A" and our boats all got in 3 races.

Just watched the 7:30am bridge opening for the yachts to leave the lagoon for Friday's racing. There had to be 50 plus (maybe more) boats leaving. quite impressive. Add in a slow motion collision between a mono hull and a huge catamaran right in front of the SMYC patio, quite entertaining. I will make sure to watch tomorrow's 7:30 opening.

Carol I'm sitting at my kitchen table staring out at real Canadian snow banks. laugh. I wish I was there. But don't worry the pictures will be coming when we arrive later this month for a months long vacation joy. There will be a very special event with lots of pictures to go with it. I will announce where and when once we are on island. Stay tuned.

Carol, I really should do that. But right now I’m at Karaktor having a mojito(s) watching the boats pass by quite closely. I have no idea what’s going on but it’s fun! Quite windy.

When it's really windy is when it's the most fun to be on a chase boat! Do it!

Re: boats leaving - 03/03/2023 05:50 PM

Years ago, thinking 80s and 90s, we used to lay on our chaises at Mullet and see all the boats off the bay with no clue what it was all about back then. No cell phones and not all that much in the line of communication if you weren’t a boater. Always fun to watch but no idea it was a regatta. Or what a regatta was……we just thought the islanders were having a fun day under sail and good for them. Who knew? 😊😊
