Nope, compared to photos in my house, don’t think it is Bone Island - but close

a bunch of light houses there??

Both good guesses clapping

One guess the latitude is too far north
One guess the latitude is too far south

Both guesses the longitude if too far west
of course one more than other....

Surfs Up! clapping

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/20/2020 12:50 PM

That would be the lighthouse
Rincon is touted as one, if not the best, surfing location in the Caribbean.
Surfing World Championships have been held there in the past.

My wife and I lived about 10 miles from the lighthouse back in the 70s.

exactly Tom! Abaco area?

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/20/2020 02:38 PM

You were quick to catch the flag hint. Indeed the railing is visible.
Reef is in view and over 1800 feet deep.
Now, from where are you gazing, and at what settlement?
Posted By: TomB

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/20/2020 02:59 PM

I did not catch any hint... It was purely a guess.

I have never been to the Bahamas except to fly over in a Coast Guard Aircraft on a search or land and medivac some tourist who did something stupid or had an unfortunate illness or accident.

It just looked like the Bahamas so that is what I guessed.

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/20/2020 05:17 PM

Hopetown - Elbow Cay I believe. Unfortunately massive destruction in the area from Hurrican Dorian but the lighthouse is still standing. Will pass my turn on more photos but wanted to guess!
Posted By: jphart

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/20/2020 06:02 PM

BVIhockey, you got it!

Sailing guide:
From the waypoint HPTWN named for this destination, head toward Eagle's Rock. When the narrow concrete road is straight, turn and head directly bearing 149° as though you were going to drive onto it. Turn to starboard and proceed into this harbor.

I’d think Mike and BEERMAN have traversed that course and into this harbor.

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/20/2020 07:29 PM

Good memory JP! I don't remember seeing a light house in the distance when we motored through man-o-war cut, it was nighttime, raining and..... I was kinda busy on the bow with a flood light looking down!!!! We stayed at Abaco Beach Resort. Wonder how it recovered after the storms??
Posted By: jphart

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/20/2020 11:17 PM

Here’s the famous Hopetown lighthouse, Harbour and Atlantic Ocean. We sailed here five years ago, and two years ago rented a house on White sound across the street from the Abaco Inn. I hear they are making progress in the Abacos. Approach guidelines are from Dodge sailing guide.

Once it is in a photo gallery here, you right click on the picture, depending on your browser, to get the URL of the picture..
Posted By: TomB

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/22/2020 01:05 AM

The other way which may be easier but does not render a high res photo is

Use the full editor
In the grey section at the bottom of the window you will see Attachment Manager
Click on Attachment manager
It will open another window and allow you to drag and drop from your computer or use a file select a file
Once you have completed that hit done
And you are finished.
When you post your response the picture will be attached at the bottom

And now Winterstale you are in the game... and I am clueless

HaHa Mike - Busted dance

For the new folks
- we have an 18 hour no google rule (honor system) so all time zones have a fair shot
- make sure you photo does not have the name of the location in the file name
- it has to be a picture you have taken
- after a guess or two it is polite to give a hint... The more obscure the hint the better.

We have enjoyed traveling the world through other people's eyes during this period of the germ.
We welcome you, and look forward visiting the places you have seen.

Correct, from Wikipedia:
Owing to its shape contrasting with its surroundings, it is known in local vernacular as the "Friendly Alien"

TomB - you have it. I have a place in Bingen am Rhein, just a couple of miles away. It is the best wine country in Germany and the Rhine river has always been an important trade route and border in Europe.
Posted By: TomB

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/22/2020 06:01 PM

Zanshin,

Truly beautiful spot and you could not be more correct about the wine!

For our next destination we go the movies! In this case not the movie, but the backstory... and oh what a back story!
I feel like the guy on TCM introducing a classic... And in fact it was a classic.

Where would one have to go to cross this bridge?

I'm going to have to defend myself here against calumnious suggestion that I might have broken the rules noevil I believed I knew the answer, unfortunately incorrectly, and simply used google to try and confirm my thoughts. Having learnt that I was probably incorrect I didn't go on to attempt to find the correct answer. Therefore I believe, your honour, that I acted within the spirit and letter of the law. drown

And while I'm here being petty and pedantic... The earlier answer should have been the Trevi Fountain, not the Trivi. duel

Go forth and guess more!

Puerto Vallarta I believe is correct. Night of the Iguana. Very good clue!
Posted By: EllenS

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/23/2020 12:12 AM

As far as the famous couple did Richard Burton cross with a Elizabeth Taylor, just not on screen.

I’m sure Tom will tell us the whole story.
Posted By: TomB

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/23/2020 01:02 AM

Ellen is correct! Richard and Elizabeth were quite the number.
They were all over the tabloids with their steamy relationship.
Only problem was they were both married.

When Burton got the lead role in Night of the Iguana, Taylor followed him down to Puerto Vallarta, as did the movie press.
The movie studio had a fit, and the Mexican authorities were outraged.
Mexico laws were still heavily influenced by the Church.
In fact the Pope called them out publicly on their debauchery.

Burton solved the problem by buying Casa Kimberly so the two were no longer living together.
Burton's apartment was on one side of the street and Taylor's house on the other.

The rest is history. It was not a Camelot ending.

DanS was the first to chime in.

BTW - took both the pics to make the clue. PhotoShop is great.
Posted By: DanS

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/23/2020 01:16 AM

Yeah, I knew the Night of the Iguana story from my dad, who spends his winters in Puerto Vallarta.

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/23/2020 02:51 AM

Well done. Damn, I didn't look closely enough to see those clues. Astor Place actually merges into 8th Street. The cube sculpture is called Alamo, and it rotates if you push hard enough. The brown building is Cooper Union, my alma mater. Beyond the traffic light on the left is St. Marks Place, a major hippy hangout back in the day.

Neyland Stadium is a lot of fun and once you go, the song Rocky Top will be running in a loop in your head for a while.

We tried to get on the boats, but didn't have any luck. It is quite a sight, all the boats rafted to the dock in the shadow of the stadium. The Vol Navy is quite an organized group. We still somehow managed to enjoy ourselves though!

Yep, Monument Valley in the Navajo Nation! We stayed at The View hotel run by the Navajo and highly highly recommend it. The last 2 pics were from our balcony. "Probed" ugh...good luck with that and you are next up to post!

Italy? I think you're going to have to give us a clue.

I’m looking at the pic on my phone, tiny but I might see an Illy coffee flag? It’s everywhere, but since it’s italian I’ll guess Amalfi Coast to beg for another clue?.....

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/26/2020 07:04 AM

Marmaris would be the likely superyacht re-provisioning spot.

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/26/2020 12:51 PM

I think it would be most interesting to hear about all the places Sleepychef has worked, such an interesting life. Seems like you have been or worked just about everywhere! I'm a tad jealous, must say.
Posted By: sleepychef

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/26/2020 03:53 PM

We started in Marmaris but ended up down the coast due to where all the guests were coming from.

Clue:

A place you Go to you half way there
Posted By: SXMFOX

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/26/2020 04:05 PM

Turunc I’m guessing with that clue, looks like the little coffee shop. And there are lot of guest there.
Posted By: sleepychef

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/26/2020 04:43 PM

That even further from the airport the answer is in the clue , go check it out.
Posted By: Jeannius

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/26/2020 05:45 PM

Gocek
Posted By: sleepychef

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/26/2020 06:09 PM

Jeannius is correct, best place I ever provisioned, sat in one shop and the guy had his boys run to the butchers, fishmongers and everywhere I needed while I sat and drank, he overcharged but it was worth it as every time I went in for a personnel shop he never charged me.
Posted By: Jeannius

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/26/2020 06:22 PM

Needed the second clue before I remembered the name. Done several charters from Marmaris in the past but never got to Gocek.

Here's a photo that I took while with several TTOL members, but, I don't think any of them are participating in the game so hopefully it'll last a little while...

Just to take a wild guess Glasgow.

but where in Glasgow
Posted By: Fred

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/27/2020 12:55 PM

Maybe the main ScotRail station? I forgot the specific name. The only reason I guessed Glasgow was the color of the signs. The Scottish Tourist bureau uses that color and I just guessed Glasgow.

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/28/2020 04:48 AM

EllenS,

sleepchef didn't, but I was born in that neck of the woods and lived a couple of towns upriver. I bet you are looking forward to putting in some clues, perhaps with song references. If nobody guesses it then I'll answer but I kind of feel like I'm cheating if I were to answer it right away.
Posted By: Zanshin

Re: Game Time - Part Four - 08/28/2020 05:02 AM

EllenS,

I understand your last post now (had to google the song to see if Mr. BACHARACH had sung it), so before I named it I searched my picture archive in Lightroom and found an appropriate next picture to post.

The town in your picture is Bacharach am Rhein. I used to work in Wiesbaden and we would frequently get visitors from headquarters in the USA, which meant I got to take them on castle and wine tasting tours at company expense so I've been to Bacharach many a time. The infamous "Loreley" bend in the Rhine is just downriver.
