getting around Isla Mujeres

Looking for advice! We (9 adults and 2under 10 kids) are going to Isla Mujeres in the spring. Ive read that cars arent needed/usable on the island and that golf carts or taxis are better choices. Any feelings one way or the other? Seems carts are renting for about $60 (US) a week and taxis cost about $3. Any experiences, or recommendations are greatly appreciated!!!
Finally, any suggestions on how to move the group from the airport to the ferry? Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Healthy and Prosperous 2019!!

We used the golf carts all over and had a blast. Wouldn't do it any other way. The locals are great.

It's been awhile, like years ago. At that time it was $20. per day. Don't remember who we rented from but the rentals are all over. Have fun, we loved Isla.

Last March we paid $40 - $45 for a 4-hr cart rental, it was the last cart available except for another outfit that wanted $90 for 4 hrs (supply & demand). Normally we would pay that price for a full-day rental. You’d need at least 3 carts so taxis would make more sense for your group.

Carts are fun to drive around for 2 - 4 ppl for sightseeing, and you may want to do that one day...

If transferring from CUN to the ferry I’d look at one of the preferred transfers like Canada or USA Transfers just for convenience and peace of mind. There are also less expensive shared vans outside terminal 3, and I don’t know if an ADO bus makes that route but you could check.

right off the ferry, and across the street to the left a little. Was $20/day a long time ago. Make sure to take the Ultra-Mar on the way over. Don't get tricked onto the old slow smelly ferry. Take the yellow and blue double decker. Enjoy.

The cart rentals right on the Main Street (Av Rueda Medina) and closest to the ferry terminal are more expensive, and the rates are no longer that low, unfortunately, unless perhaps for a monthly rental...

But for a large group like yours, taxis from the ferry to your hotel, between your hotel and town, or to other spots makes more sense. You should rent a few golf carts once or twice to see the island that way as it is fun. Does your hotel/resort offer carts?

Airport to ferry R/T: Book online. I've used CARM (https://www.cancunandrivieramaya.com/transfers/isla-mujeres.asp) several times and they are very reliable.
Purchase your ferry tickets when you get to the ferry port.

Golf Cart Rental: You'll want one golf cart for your entire stay, and then the extra people can follow in a taxi. I haven't rented a golf cart in 2 years, so compare the companies. Most of the companies are on the same street as the ferry as only about a 2 minutes' walk. We would send 2 people to get the golf cart and the
rest of our group would take the luggage and head to the casa in taxis.
Golf Cart Rental cost: You may want to email the golf cart companies and ask if you can get a discount for paying in cash. I recall that I got a good discount for cash payment upon arrival.

Taxis: They run nonstop around the island. It's easy to flag one down. Make sure you have pesos to pay and ask the price before you go. I think I paid around 60 pesos to go from the ferry to the mid-island area near Mangoes restaurant.

Restaurants: There are so many good restaurants! Mid-island, I like Caribbean Brisas, and then Mangoes.
