Clothing Optional Key West

Clothing Optional Key West - 12/07/2015 04:16 AM

I know the clothing optional venues are all but gone in Key West but I am wondering if anyone knows of a place to stay that permits nude use of a pool at a minimum. Thinking of visiting Key West in June 2016 and we know Marreros and the Pilot House will both be closed/under new ownership by then. Everything we have researched so far for clothing optional choices is either gay or closed. I know the answer is probably along the lines of 'we are out of luck' but figured we ask anyway. If there are no clothing optional venues left we will probably not bother with Key West since our number of days we get to spend on nude vacations every year is limited and precious.

Sorry to report this, but we have been looking for the same type of venue, and I think you are out of luck. We got one last trip to the Pilot House in October, but I think the only places with nude pool are male only.
We are looking for an alternative trip where we can sun, and swim in the buff. Key west was perfect for a week end get-away.

Since you are in eastern Ohio you might want to look into Avalon Resort in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia for weekend getaways. For winter sunning and swimming they have a large heated greenhouse-enclosed swimming pool, along with other resort amenities. We enjoy it.

Alexander's Guest House, although branded as LGBT, welcomes hetero couples as well. They have 2 upper decks available for nude sunbathing but the pool is NOT c/o. We stayed there recently, very comfortable accommodations.

Is this place close to duval street?

West Virginia ain't exactly tropical no matter how hot and humid the greenhouse or how many fake palm trees they bring in. Plenty of places in Florida to substitute for now closed off key west. Glad to see they allow heterosexual as that sounds a little discrinatory not too. Why are there lgbt only places, shouldn't all places be all people. Makes me feel like maybe they have activities nonlgbt would be uncomfortable with, kind of like a non-aanr lgbt vs aanr lgbt.

Not really, approximately a 15 minute walk.

Come on now. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

Be nice. Bill loves Avalon and gives it a plug as often as possible.
It's almost like Key West <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, but only as a non-promotional reply to a legitimate question posed by another poster which adds useful information on the question at hand.

If I really wrote inappropriate "plugs" then the Moderator of this Forum would send any such post to oblivion...and rightly so!

There is nothing wrong with promoting a place you love. It's only a problem if you are being compensated.

Re: Clothing Optional Key West - 12/10/2015 12:28 PM

Okay folks, what is the big deal? More posts about Bill S than Key west on this thread.

I was just making an observation not criticizing Bill S's enthusiasm of a place he loves.

There is no denying that Bill S is a proponent of Avalon. 9 out of the last 14 references to Avalon are by him.

I never said it was off topic either.

Its unfortunate that soon there will be essentially no C/O places in Key West. I was in Marathon at Hawks Cay for a conference in September and was able to bring my wife along. We were hoping to spend the weekend after the conference at the Pilot House, but since it was last minute they were already booked. I spoke to a travel agent about other C/O options, and he said there was Banana Bay Resort. But, after looking at the reviews we decided to pass. It seems like the demand is there, hopefully something will pop up to supply it.

Re: Clothing Optional Key West - 12/11/2015 05:14 AM

Hmmm, Banana Bay Resort. Their web site says the pool is topless optional, but some of the review talk about the pool being clothing optional...That tells me it depends on who else is there if it really is clothing optional. The reviews are all over the place. Looking at the pictures, makes you think twice. Maybe this is an option but I dont know if it is worth the risk to sacrifice some of our clothes free vacation days. We will keep looking. Right now we are leaning toward "no go" on Key West.

Re: Clothing Optional Key West - 12/11/2015 09:46 AM

We will still go to Key West most likely, but either rent a private place where we can be naked, or just keep the clothes on at a B&B. We will miss the social aspect of meeting other people if we choose the former.
We also thought Banana Bay looked a little dicey.

We looked for c/o snorkeling/cruise options on our last trip to Key West and found those excursions to be non-existent as well!

Re: Clothing Optional Key West - 12/11/2015 01:07 PM

Did you look online before you went, or look around after you got there? As I definitely recall reading about a c/o cruise operation a few years ago.. ...although perhaps it was a liveaboard cruise, not just a snorkelling adventure.

Re: Clothing Optional Key West - 12/11/2015 07:36 PM

To be honest we really didn't look until after we arrived in KW.
Straying from topic here... have you taken that C/O day cruise out to Egmont Key in the Gulf of Mexico? I think it leaves from Tampa?

Re: Clothing Optional Key West - 12/11/2015 07:36 PM

Hi all...a couple things regarding Key West as I returned from there for my 13th Fantasy Fest the last week of October (and probably my 25th trip to Key West).

Even for Fantasy Fest, clothing optional resorts were scarce and planned to revert to clothing-required the day Fantasy Fest ended. FF 2016 will likely see very few, if any, clothing optional resorts. A few guesthouses did not say anything to guests during some late night/very early morning skinny dipping but no nudity signs were posted and several of the previously C/O resorts.

As for clothing optional cruises, I spent a Monday afternoon on the Scarlet Rose charter boat with 2 other couples and it was 100% C/O after we left port.

And related....the Key West Express high speed catamaran ferry from Ft. Myers to Key West is having their annual $99 roundtrip sale. I've done it the past 2 trips to KW and it is great way to arrive within 4 hours. Just a FYI

Re: Clothing Optional Key West - 12/11/2015 07:41 PM

2 great bits of information, thank you!
We were considering a return trip to KW in conjunction with a west coast Florida trip, a high speed ferry from Ft. Meyers would be a good alternative to the drive.
1 more question, did you visit the "Garden of Eden"?

Re: Clothing Optional Key West - 12/11/2015 07:57 PM

Sorry, if that question is addressed to me, no I haven't.

Re: Clothing Optional Key West - 12/11/2015 08:01 PM

Hi there...I have been to the Garden of Eden many times since my 1st visit there during Fantasy Fest 1999 but I did not go this past FF however, several people in the Krewe I belong to did so and they reported it is still C/O.

Re: Clothing Optional Key West - 12/11/2015 08:48 PM

You mentioned the Scarlet Rose, an online search show it strictly as a fishing charter, no mention of c/o.

Contact Capt. Tony and ask his boat's status for any open days....

try Haulover close to south beach or ft lauderdale for night life

Haulover is a "haul" from Key West!! Up north, it'd be in another state!
