Hidden Beach

Hidden Beach - 02/11/2016 01:08 PM

Considering Hidden Beach resort for first time visit to Mexico, is there a beach we could use within walking distance for surf and sand? Possible c/o use? Posts say the resort has no real beach. Also, is the resort within walking distance to Tulum?

Hidden Beach is about half an hour from Tulum by car. While I have never stayed there, the closest beach where you might be able to go CO is on the southern end of Xpu-Ha beach,by the ruined hotel.

No and no.

Saying that there's "no real beach" at Hidden Beach isn't exactly accurate- it's more that the reef is close there, and so it's not a good swimming/ water access spot. I'm not sure if this link will work, but you can go to Google Maps and virtually "walk" down the beach (it's just past high tide) to see what it's like. Here's the whole link to copy and paste in your browser (don't just click on the hyperlinked part): https://www.google.com/maps/@20.4540563,-87.2716841,3a,75y,49.09h,74.59t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sIEn6aFnniXf0rKMV6HmY3w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1

I'd guess it's about 300 yards long. Nice to go back and forth from there to the pool. If you want nice water access, you have to put on clothes and go to the sister resort next door. Or- rent a car and drive down to Tulum/ the Biosphere.

Thanks for that link, I got a real kick out of turning the camera around and seeing the security personnel following the Google camera guy across the beach. Clearly some of the people on the beach weren't too happy either..

To be exactly accurate that isn't the reef nor is it coral. It's Karst limestone. Quite a few historians attribute the nomadic, rise and fall of Mayan and Aztec cities to that geologic structure of the Yucatan.

How is the construction coming along?

All that being said, what are your resort recommendations in the area? Particularly Tulum? A c/o beach would be primary with c/o at the resort secondary. Thank you all.

Since you say "resort," you can't get much nicer than Hidden Beach. But it is pricey. A cheaper option would be to go to Azulik, which is next to a clothing optional beach. That's a little rustic for some, and it has a kind of youngish backpacker-honeymooner vibe. Or you could go to Intima Resort, which has a great pool, and then drive 15 min to the Biosphere (or 5 min to the Azulik beach). There's always Desire Pearl, if that's your scene. Or finally- though I don't think you could call it a resort- you could drive a couple more hours south to Xcalak and go to Playa Sonrisa. Great beach there.

All are good options- just slightly different, depending on what you're looking for.

Thanks for the information, much appreciated. Is Intima a walkable distance from the town? How about the beach? To us, walkable would be 15-30 minutes. Like that they have a reciprocal arrangement with the resort that has a c/o beach.

If your range is 30 minutes, the beach might be too far for you to go on foot. Google Maps has the closest beach access about an hour.

Please, if you don't mind, please share the info about the reciprocal arrangement with a C/O beach. Maya Luum is closed and walled off and we are looking for a nice place to go.

It was from a February 2015 trip report on a travel agency site that stated that Intima has a discounted arrangement with Cabanas Copal for day use of their c/o beach.

Just back from Hidden Beach Resort 2 hours ago.

The construction is unnoticeable inside the resort.

The only time we were in plain view of the textiles was way north by the new Presidential suites.

So really, unless you choose to strut your stuff on the extreme edge or go out in the water on the north end, privacy is just as before.

The rumor mill is cranking. Apparently there is a Hidden Beach sign on the beach way south of the old El Dorado. They are reportedly building a whole new Hidden down there.
