For Necker tours, it is usually on short notice. Necker notifies him when then can come, depending on guests on island.

To anyone who has done this tour... how is it?

Re: Guption's - 12/26/2014 07:07 PM

We enjoyed it and would certainly do it again if the schedule works out. Seems now they allow you into the Lemur enclosures that wasn't the case when we toured. Spent a good 2 hours on Necker visiting the flamingo pond, lemur areas, giant tortoises, etc. Didn't go to the main house but we were allowed to visit some of the other facilities on the island. Gumption does a nice job of it and his enthusiasm for what he does makes it even more fun. About the only way you'll get on island for under 24k a night <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Our group of 9 went in May. We had touched base a couple of months ahead of time and again the week before we left. We were picked up at Leverick along with 3 other people and had a great afternoon with Gumption. Everyone especially liked holding the lemurs. On the return we had Gumption drop us at Saba for happy hour. We would do it again.

I really enjoyed it, the Necker tour was definitely cool, the animals were really special for sure. The glass bottom boat tour (which is a separate booking) is really neat too. He takes you around and finds cool sea turtles, cannons etc ending over near Oil Nut bay and did some snorkeling so that was nice. Snorkel tour was great because that trip I was mostly land based so it was the only chance I got to do it. The reef over there was really nice snorkeling and he knows where everything is so he is a great "tour guide".

We have a tour tomorrow at 1pm sharp. Leaving Bitter End at 12:40.

We were redirected to gumptions.neckertour@gmail.com instead if the email above. Prompt and polite replies. We are excited.

Yes he operates the Necker tours differently from the reef tours, hence the different email. Have a blast!! He's a good guy.

We (2 of us) really wanted to do it last May when we stayed on VG for 4 nights. I touched base with Gumption and the Necker scheduling team way ahead of time and they had us on the list for two different days. For whatever reason he didn't have enough people to fill the boat for a Necker tour, so we didn't get to go. Sounds like the OP has enough with his crew, so it won't be an issue, but just a heads up for anyone else that it is subject to a minimum number of people.

I was told via email that Necker releases the schedule at the end of each month for the follow month. Unfortunately, there aren't any tours for February. We may look into one of his regular trips.

Re: Gumption's Necker Tour - 01/16/2015 08:35 PM

My husband and I toured Necker yesterday with Gumption (and 10 other people on his glass bottom boat) and it was an amazing experience. We believe we heard them say there was a plan to move the lemurs to Mosquito Island in the next few months.

His tours are done last minute with permission from Necker Island. It is recommended to email the following address about a week before your arrival. gumptions.neckertour@gmail.com

Cost is $80 per person (we felt it was worth every penny)

Take an umbrella. Its hot and has limited shade. Sunscreen is a must and even a bottle of water.

Wear good walking shoes. You will go up and down hills and uneven shorelines. Not a hard walk but was particularly challenging for several on the tour with us that had knee replacements. There is a fair amount of walking in beach sand too.

Now, the good part!

The animals are amazing as are the staff. Well trained and a passion for the environment. Necker guests are well respected and if our group happened to see anyone not on our tour we were asked to refrain from taking photos.

We saw many many types of lemurs, many turtles both large and very small, birds, and flamingos. Cuddling with the giant turtles was pretty cool as was feeding the lemurs. They are loveable creatures.

Once I'm back at a PC I'll post pics. It doesn't seem possible from an iPhone.

If we had the chance to tour again we'd likely jump on board !

Re: Gumption's Necker Tour - 01/18/2015 12:27 PM

As of right now the last 3 tours we have to Necker for January month is already booked out with tons standbys. Boaters up in North Sound, I recommend out night tour. We hit our 2015 record last Thursday night we saw (17) turtles. This tour will be soon read about on TripAdvisor. Night tours run anytime after 6:40pm before or after dinner. can be picked up from anyway within North Sound, Over Saba Rock or BEYC will be perfect.
