Best spot for a lay day?

Best spot for a lay day? - 01/12/2015 08:20 PM

First trip to BVI's, getting excited! 10 nights on monohull with a couple of non sailors. I'm thinking to take a lay day in the middle. What would you suggest? North sound or Anegada and specifically where and why? Would even consider dockside! Thanks for your suggestions! I've enjoyed reading this forum!

I would do both, and dockside at Leverick.

Definitely get a slip at Leverick -- you can rent a car and explore all of Virgin Gorda - so much fun. It's a very easy way to visit some of the beautiful beaches. We went to the Baths at around 3pm on my last visit...and we were almost the only people there. It was fantastic.

We always do 2 nights at Leverick on the dock. Thu/Fri typically. Thursday evening we get the rental car and head to Coco Maya for dinner. We tour the island Friday and then have dinner at the BBQ Friday night.

We've done this with a number of different groups and everyone loves it. Being on the dock is great too and everyone can come and go as they please.

+1

There are a ton of options: stay there, hit jumbies, the pool, the internet cafe, the upstairs restaurant... or, go hike Gorda Peak, cab over to the Baths, dink over to Sandcastle, BEYC, Saba, etc., etc.

In 20 years of doing the BVI's our last trip was the first for renting a car on Virgin Gorda. It was the high light of our trip. Leverick is the perfect spot for a "lay day".

A slip at Leverick or Scrub is good.
Often a good chance to pick-up water in the middle of a charter.

Two nights in Anegada is also good.

All our crews have voted Leverick at the dock as a "must-do." Some wanted to rent cars and go to The Baths, some wanted to go to the spa, others did laundry, etc.

Our ladies love the Spa at Peter Island. Have you had an opportunity to compare it to the spa at Leverick?

Advantage of Leverick, the best laundry facility around, nice spa, great food and pool at the Jumbie Bar, the best hosts in BVI, re-provisioning options, along with all the other reasons previously posted.

There are some benefits for TTOL members at Leverick that you won't find elsewhere, so make sure when you reserve your dockage, that you mention your TTOL member name.

( noticed that your member date is quite recent)

Since your with non sailors I would take at least 2 dock days one at Leverick and one at West End where you can refill your tanks and let them loosen up and kiss dry land.

I like to do two days in the NS...one at Leverick and one at Saba/BEYC. I'd do two nights at Anegada every time if I could.

I suppose it might be different if we all knew Nick as well as some of you guys.

We mostly prefer the forward cabin -----but if you can find a secluded anchorage, it can be very nice right up on deck.

If you are going to get a slip with the hope of pleasing the crew. Peter Island and Scrub are two of the best. With younger folks do Scrub with their fun pool and slides. Leverick is a good place to leave the boat and explore Virgin Goud by rent a car. Some like the quiet solitude of the small Biter End pool along with their lite poolside salad fare.

I was only referring to the spa at Leverick vs. PI. We plan to be with Nick in a slip for 3 nights so I was trying to get opinions on the spa.

Re: Best spot for a lay day? - 01/13/2015 05:28 PM

have to disagree, first of all there are no plural "slides" there is one tiny slide at Scrub. Peter Island slips are a rip off and I would call Peter Island a kid friendly resort, unless your kids are fond of $20 hamburgers. Oh and yes you can fill you water tank for $1 a gallon as well. Bitter End charges $10 a head to use the pool, even with a paid slip.

Scrub Island called me with a special in January. $199.00 for a suite. Normally $640.00.

Including slippage at the marina? Do you have a contact email for them?

Lay day is a great idea. I am now in the habit of 2 nights on the dock at Leverick and 2 nights at Anegada.

Julie from Mainsail Lodging and Development called me on Saturday morning to tell about their January special. We already had a slip reserved so that's how she got my number. I think you have to have a slip reserved in order to be eligible for the promotion.

Well there is that. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> I was thinking mainly for the thread starter who is on their first trip though. Although...I've never met him and have been going there for quite some time....I just don't get down there as often as others.

Late addition to the thread. Go where you will be welcomed, where your business is wanted and a great location! Leverick Bay without question!!
Nick and his staff deserve our business because they work hard to earn it.

Hi, we have six kids with us, ages range 8..16. Originally we were thinking BYEC for our lay day, after reading this thread I think Leverick might be better, especially with a rental van to go visit the baths.

With six kids, is Leverick still a better option?

Kids like pools. They head straight there when you dock the boat. Not sure why!

The Bitter End Pool offers a peaceful area coupled with nice light meals and salads. The Bitter End is a little more elegant and offers shade. The issue with Leverick while very friendly and wide open to the masses. Is Leverick is a lot more concrete with little greenery or shade. If we want to rent a car and explore we stop at Leverick. If a more tranquil lay day is desired by some of the crew. We spend time at Bitter End, Scrub, Peter Island. Reservations and shaving, shirts with collars.... will also go a long way opening up the welcome. Maybe the first question should be. What does your crew want out of the lay day and what is the crew willing to pay for it?
