Paper Nav Charts?

This is my first charter to the BVI, and I know most everything is line of sight and there will be a chart plotter/GPS onboard but I still like having a paper chart as a back up. I assume I should bring my own or will Moorings normally have a set on board? Anyone know the relevant chart numbers? thanx

The still supply a paper chart along with basic paper chart navigation tools.

They have the Imray-lolaire A233,which covers both the USVI and the BVI including Anegada.

Buy one ASAP and study it. You will be glad you did.

Get the walkers cruising guide instead. Charts are onboard on all TUI Moorings, Sunsail, Footloose charters.

the Moorings will send you a not for navigation chart with your contract package. As said, a real paper chart will be on the boat and is part of your checkout inventory.

This is what we bought when we finished sailing school in November. It was about $60 - it's a really nice detailed chart (thick paper, prob waterproof?). It's much more detailed than the chart that TMM sent with the guidebook. We also have Frank's map of the BVI's which is great quality and has snorkel/dive spots marked.
While the subject is up, should we also have a navigation app if some kind on our iPad? The boat were chartering is a 2013 cat - assume it has a pretty good GPS/charting system?

jimp, try these if you want detail charts. The charts that come with the cruising guides are remedial at best. We use this company for Courtesy flags and charts

We wrote all over our Moorings supplied "paper" chart; folded it so it would be easier to use at the helm and packed it away as a souvenir.

Moorings demanded it back, so we gave it to them.

Can't imagine they would leave it on the boat for the next crew.

You should always use pencil on the map and then erase it for further use. Taking a map as souvenir is like taking a towel from a hotel room as souvenir.

Best practice is to roll your chart, never fold. Folding it ends up cutting the paper at the folds pretty quick. I leave the chart on the cabin table and duck below to check if needed.

First time down, '79, bought several charts for our "planning parties" with another couple. During check out the guy used a chart in a laminated placemat and THAT is all we needed - then and now.
