Arriving in to Hodges Creek at 10pm

Arriving in to Hodges Creek at 10pm - 09/08/2015 09:50 PM

Hi

Be gentle with me it's my first post on the forum but have been reading previous posts with interest!!

We're flying in to EIS on 1st Dec - arrival time is 21.15. By the time we get bags and a taxi it will be around 10pm I guess when we arrive at Hodges. We're chartering with the Cat Co and they have said the boat will be available for a sleep aboard when we arrive.

We're planning on doing the on line provisioning to save time the following day but were wondering if there will be anywhere to get a bite to eat (and a well needed cold one or two! at that time in the evening?

Many thanks in anticipation!!

Welcome to TTOL Nobbie! I don't have anything to offer here but I'd like to connect with you after your trip. We're chartering with The Catamaran Company for the first time in January. Which yacht are you chartering? Thanks and good luck!

unfortunately, most likely, nothing will be open. I would call Catco and ask if someone could put a 12 pack of beer aboard. I would get your munchies at the SJU airport.

Have your charter company put a cooler with ice and beverages along with some snacks on the boat. That always worked for me when I was chartering.

Calamaya is the on-site restaurant at Hodges Creek. If you get there at 10pm, they may still be open, but much later and I'd guess they will be closing... You could call (284-495-2126) and ask what their December hours are.

Brandywine would be a good option, but they are closed on Tuesdays.

Eat what you can in Puerto Rico. Carry a bottle or two from duty free. Drink that. Go to sleep and get a nice breakfast in the morning. Explore the boat, all the nooks, lines, and crannies. Ask the Cat Co what they can leave you. Ice would be nice.

I chuckle at Evan's post about putting beer aboard. Many companies as a Sleep aboard will provide rum and cokes. Putting them out on the table in great presentation. But they are hot. How about a nice card that says "Hey, Look in the Fridge!". So to follow Evan's idea, have them put the beer in the fridge, I've learned, be specific.

Awesome, thanks. We'll have about 6 of us on Cattitude; Lagoon 450. Definitely would be interested to hear what you think of the Riteway close to Hodges Creek if you end up making a run. We'll also order most everything online but typically make a local run for meats, fruits and veggies and breads (and othe impulse buys). I've heard the one by Hodges isn't as good, but just curious if it will do. Have fun prepping!

The folks that were watching our boat in SXM knew we had a later flight. We asked and they got us beer , a bag of ice, coffee, 1/2 & 1/2 and some delicious pastries for the morning. Yes, Mike, they put the beer and 1/2 in the fridge

I second everyone's suggestion to ask CatCo to stock the fridge with a bottle of Rum, some Cokes or juices, and a bag of ice. If possible a couple of limes! Have dinner in PR, and bring some bags of Doritos. Then enjoy settling in on deck with a drink in the gentle breeze and watch the stars!

We chartered from CatCo for the first time last year (40Below) and it was a very good experience overall. Our Lagoon 400 was in great shape with AC, and very comfortable for the three of us. Checking in and out was smooth, and the pick-up from the STT ferry was convenient, including a provisioning stop.

Hodges Creek is ok enough. Not too keen on the restaurant in the marina, except for a cold one or a quick bite, and the pool area is a sad place to hang out. All the more reason the head out as quickly as possible and make a straight line for either Norman or Cooper! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />

This year the family decided on an insane whirlwind tour of Kauai, the Big Island, LA and Joshua Tree <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />, so no BVI. But we'll be back next summer, and will happily charter with CatCo again.

Enjoy! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Groovin.gif" alt="" />

Nobbie,

Some of the posters may have missed that your flight is originating in the UK and, therefore, may not be connecting in San Juan. If that's the case, of course, consider dining at your Caribbean gateway wherever that is, if the timing is appropriate. As has been indicated, options on Tortola will be limited after your arrival time.

The Tamarind Club is convenient to Hodges Creek, but typically ends food service at 2200. You may want to contact them to see if they might have some flexibility for your party.

Welcome to TTOL!

Thanks for the advice. I'll certainly ask CatCo to pop a few beers in the fridge. We've got a few hours at Antigua to kill so will eat there.

Getting slightly excited now!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

If you are stuck in
Antigua..head over to the cricket ground right across the street and have a meal and cold one at "Sticky Wickets"...way, way better than the food in the airport..

Total second what Mal suggested about walking across the street to Sticky Wicket. The unofficial airport lounge.

Has the Stcky Wicket reopened? had been closed for years. You two guys generally know your stuff, so I was a bit surprised to see this.
