Dinghy from Leverick - 03/08/2017 06:07 PM
Hi all, I am wondering about taking the dinghy from Leverick to Saba and Bitter End, We have been to Leverick before and would like see these two areas. Is it a reasonable trip ? Thanks for any input.

It's certainly doable. It just depends on the weather and how wet you're willing to get. You can always take the free ferry over, too.

We attempted it last week - and turned around - it was very dark (even with lights) and many other boats buzzing around the channel.

There's no way in hell we'd try it in the dark.

It's a blast during the day when you're dressed up as pirates and toting water cannons...but at night? NO thank you!

We've done it multiple times (not at night). There are multiple factors involved:
--Wind/wave/ how many people in the dinghy (try to sit behind a big, fat person).
--If you only have 2 or 3 riders and can get the dinghy up on plane > yippee.
-- If its very windy, head over towards prickly pear island and then navigate its leeward side. If you get there and a divorce is now pending, let the fun-police ride back over on the Saba rock ferry.
-- Remember, when you get about half way across the sound, start throttling up and down and claim you think its outta gas.

I'd do it now. I wouldn't do it in the past. But our dinghy also has an 18hp engine so it's a quicker trip and we can get it to plane easily.. On a typical charter dinghy that's 9.9hp I wouldn't make the trip.

I've done it several times with a typical 9.9HP dinghy during the day. It can be a pounding experience but not that bad. I don;t think I would try it at night.

A diversion but we took the dinghy to/from the Last Reaort and Marina Cay in the dark last time. Never again for sure. The current in that channel rips!

To and From Leverick, you can call them and they'll come and get you.I don't think that is a scheduled stop. And by all means... Tip the captain <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />

Kim & Bridget - the photos I've seen of pirate get-ups and hats looks hilarious! I've always wondered tho - do you haul that stuff down with you or buy it on-island somewhere?

During the last even we participated in we brought pirate costumes, water guns, as well as hula outfits (grass skirt and coconut bra).
This is serious fun! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />
