Crewed Charter Recomendation

Crewed Charter Recomendation - 03/16/2017 08:13 PM

Three couples looking to do a crewed charter in the summer of 2018. Since I am the "planner" I thought I'd seek recommendations. We have bareboated on motoryachts in the BVI a number of times and I captained. However I want to do a sailing Cat this time and I am not comfortable or experienced on sailboats over 30 ft. Besides, our wives are mutinying over any duty as galley wench. Anyone know a good boat and especially crew? We are in our 50's to early 60's and still pretty "sprightly" and enjoy a good time. Figured I'd start gathering info now as it may take a while to reach a concensus

Highly recommend Catatonic - a sponsor here on TTOL. Great yacht, great crew -- if you dive, even better - if you don't, still fabulous!

Catatonic is an "owners version" Lagoon 44 and is perfect for 3 couples.

I'd also recommend using a broker, which costs YOU nothing and will sort through all the various crewed cats and crews for you. They are NOT all created equal. Some crews focus on folks who want to dive. Some more suited towards families. There are some good brokers who sponsor here.

Just to be clear - Catatonic does not focus on those who want to dive -- they just happen to be a great boat if you DO like to dive -- they're also a great boat if you want to do nothing but hang out, eat great food, see great beaches, etc. etc. etc. The crew and boat are exceptional.

You can go ahead and google her as well...and let the reviews and videos speak for themselves...

Catatonic has to be one of the best maintained and equipped boats you can charter..every toy, bell and whistle and in perfect condition..been lucky enough to sail her with Dirk and it was terrific...sadly had to race against him too!

I have done Voyage yachts crewed and bareboat. Highly recommend them. Their crew are not all dedicated to one boat so use the broker to be sure you get the right fit on crew.

We are on the last day of a 7 day cruise on the Lolalita. It is our first trip down here so I can't compare it to anything else but it has been a great trip and great crew.

It does sleep 8 guests so not sure if that will work unless you find two more
