Dingy Thefts on the rise

This subject comes up periodically on this board so here is yet another reminder to secure your dingy. Many charter companies may not insure the dingy and even if they do, you are going to lose a day or two getting a new one.

Note the locations for the thefts--Road Town and Cane Garden Bay. Not a problem for my itinerary.

I'm surprised Trellis Bay was not mention as too.

Just the normal "I need money/gas for Festival" stupidness. Repeats Christmas.

Lost a dingy in the Bight a couple of years ago. Good thing it was our last night. My wife and I were spending a couple of days land based before going home so we went through the process of filing a police report and all of that. No one seemed to care. Including the charter company. Lost our deposit though.

The cat we just chartered had its dingy stolen the week before from Cane Garden Bay. The police called the boat cell phone while we were on the boat and advised the dingy was recovered from where else but, Smugglers Cove

Thing is, even when caught the thieves don't get punished. A couple years ago a kid was caught with a string of 4 stolen dinghies. His 3rd arrest for dinghy theft and released with only an admonishment from the judge to "get your life straight."

The list of possible last names for him is not very long.

I am surprised on a crime against tourists the judge was so harsh!

I asked for a lock and cable for the dingy and the charter company I used said no need as "no one wants our motors". I think next time I bring my own cable and lock. Just feel safer and sleep better.

I guess that there is no need for that particular charter company to hold you responsible either.
