Beware of Seaborne Air

Beware of Seaborne Air - 03/05/2018 02:27 AM

Called Seaborne a couple of days ago to confirm flight on April 16 from SJU to Tortola. Was told the departure flight time had changed. We r flying in from Philadelphia to SJU & connecting. Now that Seaborne has changed the departing flight, without telling us, we r unable to make our connection. I asked the agent when Seaborne was planning on letting us know about this change & the agent said they r currently working on March changes. I said that by the time they notify us of April changes we may not be able to get on a flight with another airline. Very, very poor customer service. Swore we would never ever use them again but thought we would give them another chance. Think we have finally learned our lesson.

Seabourne has been sold to Silver Airways

Which was Gilfstream international airways before 2010. They were one of the few airlines that make Spirit look like a paragon of customer service!

We are flying down mid June. Our Seabourne connections changed also and we were not notified. Today, I checked my American Airlines segments connecting to Seabourne and all four segments were changed with no notification even though I have my settings on the AA website to be notified of changes. I tried to call them but couldn't get through because of all the changes affected by the storm.

Seaborne seems to set their schedules by season. I called them a week or two ago after they changed our June flights and they said that the schedule is now set until November. I pressed them before changing our American flights to accommodate the Seaborne change and they assured us that no more changes will occur. This did happen to us last year and the flight times did not change after the seasonal adjustment occurred. Good luck! I think this illustrates the advantage of code share flights since a schedule change waves the change fee for all flights and the need to check your flight schedule regularly. I have the American app which makes checking the schedule easy.

Exactly what airlines have been doing for decades. Winter, spring, summer, fall, holidays? Travel changes based on seasons is a new revelation? Nothing new there. I'll bet there are few here who remember the OAG. Editions always changed seasonally.

One reason to not book too far in advance. Schedules change, and airlines have no reason to discount ~>90 days in advance. ( all generalities are subject to falsehoods - including this one)

We had a negative experience with Seaborne a few years ago. Booked a flight from SJU to Antigua well in advance and for whatever reason I decided to double check it a week before the trip. Flight was no longer on their reservation system and didn't show as upcoming flights. When I called them all I was told is it was cancelled months ago. I had received no notice from them that it was cancelled and no refund - until I requested one during that phone call. At that point our only choices were a private charter which was very expensive or Liat. We rolled the dice with Liat and actually had a very pleasant experience. From that point on I generally try to only book with the major airlines, which still hold no guarantee that the flights will proceed as planned, but at least they have systems in place to communicate changes to their customers.
