Leaving Jun 16th - Itinerary Feedback

Leaving Jun 16th - Itinerary Feedback - 05/18/2018 09:01 PM

Starting to think about itineraries and need some feedback:

Saturday June 16th - Arrive STT 1pm -> CA -> FastFerry to Road Town -> cab to Nanny Cay - sleepaboard - hopefully get checked in/out that afternoon, if not Sunday AM
Plan to provision in Road Town at the Riteway Sat afternoon or Sunday early AM

Sunday - chart/boat brief and head to Jost for afternoon Soggy Sunday BBQ if this is still an event. Back to Foxys, dinner on the boat.

Monday -> Sandy Cay, Indians, maybe Caves (although I'm hearing they aren't what they once were after Irma) - moor at Norman or Peter if the Willy T is back.

Tuesday -> 'sleep in' -> maybe lunch at the Willy T -> Rhone (if time) -> Cooper -> Snorkel Cistern

Wednesday -> early to Baths -> Top of Baths for lunch -> Marina/Scrub (are we going to have trouble getting a mooring if we arrive 2-3pm?)

Thursday -> early to North Sound Leverick or BEYC mooring (wish we had time for Savannah Bay), but want to check out Oil Nut Bay so ONB is the lunch/afternoon plan from Gun Creek

Friday -> Tinker around NS, then Leverick for the Friday BBQ - this will still be happening in June?

Saturday -> back to Nanny for sleepaboard maybe hit Savannah on the way for lunch.

Sunday -> early ferry to STT for 2pm flight.

Feedback/thoughts on the boldfaced items?

Thanks!

Seems like an inefficient route. Why not do the counterclockwise route and include Anegada?

Cooper
Marina Cay
North Sound
Anegada
JVD
Norman/Peter

Leaves room for schedule changes plus two nights if you find a spot you are really enjoying.

Sole reason would be the Sunday Soggy BBQ and the Friday Levericks (which is why I'm particularly interested in how these have been lately... worth it or not), otherwise we'd do the traditional counter clockwise. We may try to do Anegada but at this point it seems like a stretch by a day.

We are on the Leverick dock and ate at the buffet last evening (6:30-9:30). The food was great. Wait staff great. Shane served us and was a delight to talk with. Fairly small crowd. Jumbies came on at 8:30p. Not the excitement and vibe we experienced in our 2 previous buffet/jumbie visits. We six thought it well worth the $38pp. Bill

I noticed you hope to both shop and get the boat checkout done on your arrival date. You state you are taking the fast ferry. That will have you arriving in Roadtown about 5pm. By the time you clear customs and cab to your boat it’s going to be 6:30 or later. Since your flight arrives at 1pm I would try and catch the native son ferry at 2:30. Customs should be quicker on the earlier boat also. Either way don’t plan on doing to much other than having a nice dinner on arrival.

We have learned a couple of things over the past few years:

1. Move the boat less and enjoy more. However, with a week and so many nice places to go, I can understand the desire to do so much.
2. Avoid nosing in through the narrows with a moderate to meaningful east to southeast wind. The day you leave Jost and head to Norman or Peter will not be a smooth ride unless the wind is really down. We are not sailors and are on a power cat, but we always take the northern route around Tortola (with the protection of the island) when heading east from Jost.

By the way, we are also flying down on June 16th, but through San Juan into Beef Island. We will be on a 43 Moorings power cat and there will be 4 of us (wife and two daughters). We will be flying an ECU Pirates flag. Hope to see you.

Definitely George... I should have said the 'first ferry to RT'

Smiths website shows departures from CA at 2:00pm, 3:30pm, and 4:30pm.

RTFF shows departures from CA at 12:00pm and 4:15pm

Native Son shows departures from CA at 2:30pm

George, I have appreciated your advice over the years. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to meet you and buy you a drink. We will be there from the 16th to the 29th. I believe you told me when we talked that you are on a 48 sail. Unfortunately, there are a bunch of those down there. Anyway, look out for us.

We are coming in on June 19 and chartering a 514 PC. 4 adults, 5 children (college and high school) It sounds like that is going to be a fun week! NC State and UNC Grads, I guess we better bring our flags!

You've got NC State and UNC grads on the same boat? You're going to need a bigger boat!
