Another poster mentioned there being no place to land or tie up a dinghy. They had to go as a pair and one person scrambled over riprap while other one idled the dinghy offshore. Was that your experience? Could they take a credit card at the tent? How long did it take overall and per person in line? The BVI Gov website just times out for me. Thanks!

It crazy they have not put up a temporary dinghy dock. Two people could build one in a day.

First, referring back to the OP, I'm not sure if posting pictures of hurricane destruction is very helpful. There is a lot of it and I'm sure you don't need to go very far to find things to take pictures of. I've been there twice since the hurricanes. Very end of October and the first week of May. I can tell you that the scene now is way better than it was in October. I can also tell you that the natives are optimistic about moving forward. So while taking pictures of ugly depressing stuff might be interesting I would much prefer to see pictures of progress and hope. There is plenty of lovely stuff to take pictures of.

Yourcraig - My experience from first of May may now be too old to rely on but given the speed the BVI govt. makes changes I would bet nothing much has changed. You be the juedge. I pulled the dingy up to the ferry dock and tied it up to one of the big ferry boat cleats. And climbed up. I did that right next to the C&I tent and asked them if that was ok. They indicated that it was just fine. The amount of time to get through C&I was pretty much the same as it has been. When I was there there was no line so I was served right away. Got through the process in about 15 minutes. They cleared me in and out at the same time which was an improvement from pre-Irma visits in 2017. They only took cash, i.e., had no ability to take a CC.

Awesome! I'll plan on bringing cash and it is very helpful to know I can leave my first mate back on board with the kids and tie up on my own. Thanks!

Environmental & Levy $10 per-person
Departure Tax $20 per-person.
National Park permit $50/week (up to 4 persons)
Cruising Tax $16 per-person / per day
Harbor Dues $10
Services Fee up to $20?
Boat License up to $45?

So for four people, 6 days, about $630

For the food and drink, are they going to ask to see my Pueblo receipt and then is it another 5% to 15% on that? I just don't want to be hunting for an ATM rather than sailing.

Thanks,

Craig

I'm really not sure what the rule is so you bring up an interesting question. I have never been asked about provisions on board the boat. Ever. And I've always marked up the customs form to be "nothing to declare". Maybe I've been doing it wrong all these years? I hope someone that actually knows the rules can chime in and clarify.

I'm only here land traveling. There was no one checking in for c&I for the hour and a half that we waited for the ferry to jvd so no lines. I saw dinghys but I don't think anyone chking in here. I suppose you could dinghy to pussers tie up and walk around the road and chk in, maybe calling pussers would know. I did not see any electricity to run credit.

Ship's stores are not generally subject to duty. Also, DO NOT land on the Pussers side and attempt to walk around. They get very upset if you land anywhere other than near C&I.

One thought though. As the ferries are not using the c&I quay now, would they object to bringing the boat in rather than dinghy?

I've never been asked about Ship's Stores. I always put $0 on the customs declaration form.
