Tamarind

Anybody know what's happening with the Tamarind in Tortolla...near Roadtown? Last I heard it was closed. Too bad as it was - at one time - a nice place and away from the noise in town. Our last visit was a bit like a stay at Fawlty Towers and the place was lacking in maintenance but not to the point where it couldn't recover with a little work and money. Has it been taken over? Being refurbed?

Still closed at this time. No movement.

“A little work and money” - post Irma, most properties require a LOT of work and money. It’s hard to imagine if you’re not involved on the ground. There is a shortage of qualified labor, prices for materials and labor have risen substantially, and most businesses lost their revenue stream.

I don’t know the specifics of the Tamarind Club. However, if people have no or inadequate insurance and reserves it’s tough to rebuild. Add in an existing mortgage or loan and you can imagine the problems. On top of that, property values have declined as property owners sold out to bottom feeders. Many people have decided it’s not worth investing the money it would take to rebuild.

We tried to stay there in Oct. 2015. Yikes, it was a mess then. Not sure we could blame Irma for the state it is/was in! We cancelled our reservations and took the fastest cab out of there. It was dirty and had mold in the 3 bedrooms that we looked at. No thanks
