Anegada questions

Anegada questions - 03/10/2019 01:44 PM

Happy Sunday everyone! We are headed down in June for almost two weeks with our daughters (13 and 15 now). This has become our annual family trip and you have helped to make it quite special with the information you have shared over the years. Although we are typically out 12 nights with a sleep aboard prior, we have been visiting Anegada and St. John each year, which compresses the rest of the trip. Fortunately, we are sneaking in a St. John land trip in April this year, which frees us up to slow down further in the BVI.

We have spent the night on Anegada (with a rental car) and we have arrived early, enjoyed the day and then booze cruised in the afternoon to Jost without spending the night (we are on a power cat and cruise about 11 knots). This year, we plan to spend the night and are thinking that we will spend the day we arrive and then part of the next day before we cruise back in the afternoon (weather permitting).

We really enjoy Cow Wreck and like the fact that it is remotely close to the anchorage. We did visit one or two of the other beaches a few years back, but we were somewhat underwhelmed. Honestly, I can't remember the ones we visited (I think one was Flash of Beauty). We really like a nice sand entry and a beach bar. If we have a day and a half, do you think it is worth it to rent a car. Additionally, are there some neat places to go around town or beaches that meet the criteria mentioned above? When we rented the car, we visited the beaches to the east and then drove through the sandy roads to Cow Wreck. Wow, was that an adventure, and I really don't want to do that again.

Thank you!
Steve

We have done the rental and also the taxi route. For four people very easy to find a taxi driver who will work with you for the day for the same or less than a rental.

We just spent a week on Anegada. Cow Wreck meets the criteria - beautiful beach, sandy entry and the beach bar is so close to the water. Car rental with Dean Wheatley was $256 for the week. But you can easily arrange taxi service. We’ve used L&M Taxi before. The road from the anchorage to Cow Wreck is almost all paved now. If you have 4 hrs to spare I’d highly recommend taking a boat trip with Sherwin Walcott’s of Team Work charters. If your girls like to snorkel and boat they’ll love it. Catch fresh conch from the ocean, watch Sherwin catch lobsters by hand and snorkel a few reefs you can’t get to by dinghy. And see the flamingos and the conch shell piles!

Cottagegirl, We stay at Dean & Henny's right before you take the hard right to go to Cow Wreck. We there last November. Are you saying the paving has gone further towards Cow Wreck now?

The pavement goes till you make the hard right toward Cow Wreck. I found much more pavement since our last trip 2 yrs ago. But the dirt roads have an island charm :-)

Thank you all for the feedback! The boat trip sounds fun. Do you have a good lunch recommendation other than Cow Wreck?

Great lunch (and dinner) food at ABC. Monica makes excellent rotis (including goat) and Bushwackers at Flash of Beauty.

Cottagegirl, my wife and I grew up in MI. That dirt road from the hard right all the way to Cow Wreck makes us laugh reminding us of the roads in MI after a hard winter. As I'm sure you well know.

Steve74, you will get lots of opinions on lunch. Baardj is correct that ABC is very good. But so is Cow Wreck and Big Bamboo. Wherever you are at lunchtime you will not be disappointed. I have not tried the rotis at Flash of Beauty, but her Bushwackers, wow. The best on the island.

We had great lunches at Cow Wreck and ABC. the lobster BLT at ABC was delicious. Sat next to a couple having the lobster pizza and it looked delicious too.
Ndfaninnc - ha ha! Michigan roads are the worst after a long winter. Just starting to melt up here right now.

ABC looks like a good option for our 2nd day. Thank you! When we took the less traveled route from the eastern beaches to Cow Wreck a few years back, I had to get out of the Jeep at one point because I had no idea where the roads were! All I could see was sand, some bushes and tracks in about every direction.
