Need a third partner for a new Moorings Leopard 45 purcchase and five year lease

Need a third partner for a new Moorings Leopard 45 purcchase and five year lease - 10/05/2019 08:10 PM

I am new to this site -- this is my first post. My partner and I, and our wives, have been sailing throughout the Caribbean for many years and are just phasing out our second Moorings catamaran, a Leopard 48. We intended to buy a new Leopard 45 and have one on hold that will be added to the Moorings BVI fleet in December, but our intended 3rd partner has now told us he cannot join our partnership because of a recent business commitment. We are now looking for another third partner and I am hoping we can find one quickly through this website. We have been living in the Florida Keys for more than 30 years and are primarily involved in marine environmental programs and undersea laboratories. If anyone reading this has an interest in owning a 1/3 partnership in a Moorings Leopard 45 in the Moorings five-year lease program, please reply. Also, this may not be the best means of reaching all the people who are communicating by using this site, and I would appreciate any guidance that anyone can provide. The Moorings staff suggested this site when we told them we had lost our third partner.

Thank you for whatever help you may be able to provide.

Thank you! I will check that out.

We are hoping there are members of this group who are also looking for a partner for a new Moorings boat. With two partners, each partner has three weeks of scheduled sailing and three weeks of short-notice sailing each year. That is more time than many of us have to devote to vacations, especially if some of those weeks are vacations with your partner. Three partners are much better for us. It removes most of the concerns of how we can arrange our schedule to be able to use that much time sailing each year and it also lowers our investment. By the way, we have come out slightly ahead financially with each of our Moorings leases. With our Leopard 46, after considering our purchase cost, the trade-in value from the Moorings, the guaranteed income every month, and the depreciation value, we made 2% overall on our investment and were able to sail throughout the world. At this point, if we trade in our Leopard 48 to the Moorings, we will be about 3% ahead. (Really, the only financial constraints have been the cost of the travel.)

Neil, also consider the option to go with two partners and sell the other two weeks a year. If you run the numbers that way you may find them very attractive.

I sent a pm thru the board. Please forward information to monk@seatrekbvi.com
We previously owned a Moorings 4300 in program and are familiar with how it works.

What is your plan for the boat once it comes out of charter?

With the Moorings program you can negotiate a minimum trade value up front. The other options are to sell the boat, move it to a secondary charter company or take delivery. Currently cats are commanding strong resale coming out of charter. In 5 years who knows but the minimum trade is a nice backstop.
