They may add some mooring balls in the future bc there were some there before Irma. However, I hear it has good holding. Haven't been myself. We may check it out next time. Looks nice

Are they serving lunch?

While a number of boats were anchored there it looked completely empty around one yesterday. Saw only one dinghy as we were passing by to check out Saba.

I just went over there yesterday. They have done a beautiful job and they are open 7 days a week right now. Drinks only, however. Lucy, the woman who owns and operates the place, said they will be open for food starting "soon" but she would not give me a date. They have hired a chef and had a menu out (standard beach fair, burgers, chicken tenders, etc) but Lucy said that menu will be changing when the new chef arrives.

When they do start serving food - I would guess this is about a month away - she said they are going to be doing both lunch and dinner which is new and exciting. Lunch will be from 12-3 and dinner somewhere around 6-8.

As for moorings, they do not have any right now, but she said she was going to speak with MoorSecure about getting some installed.

Funny I was just checking the cruising guide about this this morning. The "post-Irma" guide mentions mooring balls but I didn't think they were there yet. Thanks for the info, we may anchor there next week.

Just be careful you don’t snag the sunk pontoon boat! Took a bit of time to undo that mess!

And don't snag Michael Beans' sunken dinghy, either smile

And don't snag the old mooring tackle, either

If you are genuinely concerned about fouling on submerged objects a trip line rigged to the anchor would be a prudent plan.

Is not deep, you can snorkel down and handle any issues.

We were at the Sand Box two days ago. We had the place to ourselves. Lawn chair rental was $10 each,
and the Pain Killers were very good. When we asked to borrow the volleyball for a game of beach volleyball,
they sent someone to rake the rocks off the sand court. We dropped an anchor in 15' of water, and the holding
is good. Our crew loved The Sand Box!

Is there a ferry from Gun Creek or Leverick to go there?

College kids sometimes balk at certain tasks. I find high schoolers much easier to manage! Older people can be difficult also. After watching the shark slam into the back of my head my dive buddy refused to go on any dive where the word shark was mentioned. We had one of those rare opportunities to dive Santa Monica rock on a calm day and he saw a shark as we were picking up the mooring. Nothing was getting him off the boat! Teenagers would not have been a issue!

Rumor has it Gumption (who runs glass bottom boat tours and Necker Island tours) and whose Mom owns the Sandbox, is going to start transporting guests from GC/Leverick over there starting soon. I do not have a schedule as yet, but you can contact him on Facebook "Allington Gumption Creque" or at https://www.seaitcleartours.com/home if you are interested.
