Soggy Dollar web cam

Soggy Dollar web cam - 04/22/2020 02:10 PM

I usually check in every morning to check the weather, people, etc. There has been a sail cat parked out front for over a week now. I have never seen the dinghy launched. I applaud them for truly being social distant. I hope everyone on this medium are safe and ready to rock very soon.

What a way to self isolate -

Re: Soggy Dollar web cam - 04/22/2020 03:50 PM

It has been there for a lot longer than a week. I forget when I first noticed it, but I bet it has been at least 3 weeks. Just happily sitting there on the hook. Kinda throws it back into the face of charter companies who redline White Bay.

Re: Soggy Dollar web cam - 04/22/2020 04:14 PM

I check every day...make sure they are still alive...:)

I often wonder if I could do that...stay in same spot for 3-4 weeks and stay still literally and mentally...I haven't decided where i would like to be isolated though

Here is a blog from someone at Norman...

I wonder what they are doing with their holding tanks after sitting there for that long?

Doesn't look like a very big cat. Think they can be resupplying?

They have been sitting there for several weeks, if anyone is aboard (tourist or otherwise) then surely they must be either using the tanks or discharging directly into the bay. They certainly haven't stopped using the toilet. Also, if they are supposed to be staying aboard then how are they resupplying their food? Just curious about these things.

Re: Soggy Dollar web cam - 04/23/2020 11:15 AM

The boaters who use their holding tanks just have to take a short sail out and empty their tanks, as for provisioning everyone is allowed to go to the different markets.

Re: Soggy Dollar web cam - 04/23/2020 12:37 PM

Rather confusing based on other posts. Some say you must stay in place where you are moored, no sailing at all. How do you replenish fresh water if you can't sail to it, and the same with the tanks. Others say you can't be on the streets so how do you shop for provisions if you're not supposed to leave your boat? Oh well, glad I'm not having to deal with that.

Re: Soggy Dollar web cam - 04/23/2020 12:46 PM

Very simple,In St Thomas you can replenish your water and fuel tanks by pulling into one of the marinas, everyone’s allowed to go to the supermarkets and other essential stores as often as you like.

In ST Thomas. This cat is in White Bay on Jost and has been for quite a while so how do they get to STT with the sailing/travel restrictions in place?

Not in the BVI. The boats and houses have been locked down here and nobody is shopping. First round was 6 days, then 3 days of shopping, then 14 days, then another 7 days. Just this week they started allowing deliveries for food.

I think most live aboard boats have a water maker or stored enough to get by. In some anchorages, boats with water makers are sharing water with those who don't.

If you require something essential like emptying your holding tank, you simply request permission in advance. I've talked to some boaters that are doing this. I think I've seen a few days that the White Bay boat has been missing so maybe that what they were doing. Boaters are also resourceful (pee in the water, only use the tanks for #2, etc).

Before Irma, there were live aboard boats in Trellis that hadn't moved in years. Do that math....

My error, I didn’t relate Fran’s question with the cat in White Bay.

Re: Soggy Dollar web cam - 05/01/2020 05:31 PM

Now I am totally jealous. We had chartered a boat for six weeks the year before the hurricane. We spent a week on the back side of Guana island. We thought we were in heaven. Imagine being the only boat and people in White Bay for weeks! I do miss going to the bars and restaurants, talking to folks... remember when they thought the world was flat and if you went far enough you would fall off the edge?

Sorry. I missed that announcement. It doesn't seem to be working. There were day boats at Smuggler's last weekend and boats moving in and out of CGB this week.

Leon posted a pic this morning of the family from the catamaran -- seems they left and headed south today after being there for over two months of quarantine. Nice way to do it if you have to!
