Switcheroo BVI to USVI DYC - 09/14/2020 04:45 PM

HI TTOL BVI Friends- hope everyone is well as can be.

A shout out to Owners Time Charter agent Jenny G. We have chartered through her about four or five years in a row now.

We booked our usual late October 4 cabin 4 head cat to help educate others at Foxy's Catfight. We told her nothing else had to be right on the boat except the stern, so we would look presentable to other Catfighters. pirate

We booked the charter back in January with the hope BVI would be open.

About four weeks ago, Jenny called and strongly suggested we switch our charter departure to USVIs. Same boat, same cost- and no uncertainty about BVI. We took her advice.

We are booked to fly into STT October 26 for a one week charter. Hopefully it will happen. We received full refunds from Southwest and Intercarribean and booked roundtrips from east Coast US to STT for about $400/person.

Hopefully the charter will happen. Jenny provided us with two suggested float plans- one including BVI, one for just USVI.

The upshot here is to let everyone know that we received excellent customer service from Jenny. She proactively stepped in to save our trip before we had to call her. Don't know if the trip will happen- but if we had stayed on BVI we would definitely be cancelling.

Hope everyone stays well- can we work up an alternate Catfight if BVI closed? Martin, Loyal West End? I guess that would be impossible if BVIs are still on strong restrictions.

I am looking at very similar scenario and logistics (canceled prior SWA and Intercarribean and now planning Delta to STT 24 Oct) minus the catfight. What is your plan and confidence in getting covid test done in Maryland to fit USVI requirement window?

@bvicatter -- starting Sept 19 -- ALL travelers to the USVI must have a covid test received within 5 days of arrival - also complete the Travel Portal form online and print the USVI response.

BVICatter:

I have been researching locations doing testing, either rapid or with two-day turn-around. One that looks promising here in Northern Virginia is Patient First Urgent Care. They also advertise a location in Annapolis at 2051 West Street, Annapolis, MD 21401-3006. https://www.patientfirst.com/locations/washington-dc/annapolis

Congratulations on the moving the trip to USVI. We moved Tortuga to USVI for a trip in Aug and loved it. We have another BVI trip planned for Nov 10 and we're trying to be as patient as possible. Current status is flights thru InterCaribbean have been canceled by IC so we expect refunds but .... will see.

We haven't rebooked for SJU to EIS until we have more info from BVI but will need to pull a trigger probably by Oct 1. Possible options are:
1) Move Tortuga to USVI for the whole trip
2) Move Tortuga to USVI to start then check into BVI if they open up on Nov 15
3) Don't do anything, let the vacation gods have their way with me and hope to hell we can just fly into BVI and have a great pre-Thanksgiving vacation.

FYI, as Winterstale mentioned in a different post, water and ice are a different animal in USVI. We had two decent size Yeti's which were spectacular for holding ice but still found ourselves scrambling for drink ice late in the trip. (We had plenty of fridge space for cold drinks but I need ice in my vodka.) Not a lot of places to pick up extra bags.
The watermaker was malfunctioning and being in USVI rather than BVI, there was no remedy. It was a Sat -Sat trip and we topped off in RH on Mon while picking up additional crew and still ran out of water by the following Saturday even using salt water for dishes.

Aside from that, spectacular beaches, swimming and weather. We will definitely be back.
