American Airlines alert

American Airlines alert - 06/03/2022 01:30 PM

This morning when we checked in at ORD for our CLT/STT flights, they required negative tests results within 5 days. I told them that was not required by the USVI for vaxed US citizens, to no avail. If we had not had our BVI- required test results, we would not have been allowed to check in.

So what is the current rules for entering USVI? According to the USVI travel portal you are not required to use the travel portal and you are not required to have a green QR code. And it indicates this is the case for both domestic and international travelers. Does this mean I can come back from the BVI to St Thomas without any testing/screenings? That's what is seems to say but the last thing I had heard was that USVI was not going to require testing for domestic travel. It didn't mention international. Can someone confirm that there is no testing/portal requirement coming from BVI to St Thomas?

It is supposed to be no testing/no portal between BVI and USVI but as of this morning, the ferries are asking for test results to board. Stay tuned!!

Looks like more of a function of the ferry operators wanting to keep their employees safe by ensuring a covid-free ferry than of the USVI mandating testing. At least for now.

Unfortunately with some ticket agents its the luck of the draw. With the verifly app you take the human interaction out of the equation, even when checking bags. Just walk up to a kiosk, scan your code and print your luggage tickets, then just hand them off to an agent and off you go to security. Get the app it makes life a lot simpler. Safe travels

From what I can tell by looking at the app, Verifly doesn't apply between US and Virgin Islands?

I haven't been on the ferry to know for sure, but based on the rest of Tortola, everyone has given up on covid-free safety here. Very few following the protocols these days. Virtually no mask wearing left in CGB. Active cases at 101 currently.

Pretty much the same everywhere. CDC recommendations are only a 5 day quarantine after a positive test.

Verifly applies to all destinations, you just have to plan your trip in the verifly app. It’s better if you just download the app and start fiddling around with it. I must admit its a pain to start out with, but once you have all of your info in it, it’s pretty easy to use. Also they will give you one email back to start out with, which ours came into junk mail. After that all the info that you introduce into the app, just go back and check within the app its self, don’t rely on another email. There are a lot of little boxes you have to check off within the app. Just saying, its a lot simpler

I have the app installed for a future European trip. Verifly must be too technical for me, there is no flight available to select for US to USVI, or BVI for that matter. No results found for search of Virgin Islands. Oh well.

It helps if you have your record locator number. You must have that first, that’s why you don’t see all of your destinations. After you book airfare, just start building your trip, the app will do the rest.

It wasn’t the ticket agent’s discretion. He double-checked their system and that’s what it said. Hopefully, they’ll update it soon.

The test they sent me I discovered is just a home test. I have downloaded that neg test but it is not doctor approved. I was hoping that would get me on the ferry and I would test on Tortola. If AA insists on a prctored test I am acsrewd. The Bimax test they sent me was just a home test we found out..beware.Open to any suggestions I fly redeye out of SFPO tomorrow..

I have the official notice on the USVI policy in a png ifle, if you want to see the fine print.

It says all Int'l travelers, including U.S. citizens traveling from the BVI, must have a negative test.

Your png file is obsolete. Attached is the newest policy. https://usviupdate.com/

Re: American Airlines alert - 06/03/2022 05:09 PM

This png file shows that International travelers must submit through the portal. However, the portal no longer functions. Instead, in the portal page itself, the CDC is now referred to as the authority on this subject. Dated info?

Clearly, referring to the CDC as the authority on this subject makes all previous published communications questionable, as the CDC has exempted sea passengers from testing on arrival.

The evidence shows that the different USVI government entities involved did not coordinate a response, so there is conflicting guidance on the internet. There seems to be disparities between what appears to be the regulations and what appears to be in practice. Hope they clarify in writing soon. In the meantime, plan on testing for return is my point of view.

Both of the notices attached above are dated June 1, 2022.

Re: American Airlines alert - 06/04/2022 07:02 PM

Clearly, the portal is gone. The only issue is they are still asking for test results for BVI to USVI sea return passengers. So until the actual practice changes, be prepared to show test results when returning.

Re: American Airlines alert - 06/10/2022 09:06 PM

I can confirm that they are still asking for test results for BVI to USVI ferry passengers. We were told we could not board our BVI to USVI ferry this afternoon (6/10) without a negative covid test result. We fortunately had two proctored tests with us. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time (and internet) to do them properly (with a video proctor). We used them like a regular at-home test, which got us onto the ferry.

Will we be asked for a negative test result when we fly back to mainland USA from St Thomas tomorrow (6/11)? If so, what are our options to get am official test?

Advice much appreciated!
Thanks,
Amy

Ps I’vw heard the rules be be easier from 6/12 on.
PPS just returned to land after 6 days on a bareboat charter including 2 nights on Anegada. Info from this forum was incredibly helpful! Thank you all smile

You will not be asked for test results flying from the USVI to the US mainland. The requirement for test results into the BVI that you have experienced did not change and is still in effect.

I think Amy is traveling the other direction. New rules are not yet in effect.
