Itinerary Question

Itinerary Question - 01/24/2023 09:44 PM

I'm heading down with a group for a week on two Lagoons out of TMM the week of Feb 20th. We have a couple of people who need to be dropped on Scrub early in the morning on our last day so I'm trying to work things to be up in that area on the last night. One option I was considering is to head from The Bight across to JVD and then back across to Cooper, then around to VG, Anagada, and back to VG or Trellis. I know it's a long haul both ways to JVD and then to Cooper and will probably be motoring much of the way up the channel, but is this just a bad idea?

The Bight to Jost Van Dyke is a easy pleasant sail. JVD to Cooper is a long haul into the wind and current but certainly doable. 2 Cats means racing which can be fun!

I'm a firm believer that just about every itinerary is "doable" in the BVI. And I agree with GeorgeC1's suggestion. We were just there and did it a little differently and you might consider it: Head to VG North Sound, then to Anegada, then to JVD, then Norman, then Cooper. The reach from Anegada to JVD is a bit long, but you're under sail and it's George plus (about 4 hours).

There is always the Tortola ground transportation option to get them to Trellis, if plans don’t work out.

I would consider sticking with a typical itinerary and have a last night at Cooper. Leave early the next morning towards Road Town, but drop them off by grabbing a ball at Brandywine Bay - use their dinghy docks. Arrange for a cab to pick them up there. 10-15 mins to Trellis then Ferry to Scrub.

On our trip two weeks ago it wouldnt be possible to do what you suggest. We had 30+ kts out of the ENE - E for three days and the SFDC was rolling with 3m waves. Id suggest, as other have suggested, that you do a typical itinerary and have your friends take a taxi to trellis and jump on the scrub ferry. Super easy, and plenty of places to explore at trellis if they have some time to kill before the next ferry.

On our trip last week, we chartered out of Nanny Cay (Tortola), but had one couple arrive a day late. Did the same thing vytis suggested. We moored at Marina Cay and they caught the free Scrub Island ferry over and we picked them up in the dinghy. Easy speezy. Of course, it's about a 1 minute cab ride from EIS to Trellis Bay.

No cab needed. It’s a 5 minute walk!

5min may actually be incorrect. I think its 3 min! Lol.

Occasionally I take clients sailing to celebrate milestones and always have them arrive a day after us. The wife and I will sleep aboard and head to trellis after our provision. Chill for the day. We grab some painkillers at Trellis Market and meet them coming out of the airport with a cocktail. Every first timer is always amazed as we walk back to the dock. We hit the market so folks can choose a few personal beverages and items they may need and off we go.

FYI....one of the most reliable ATMs on Tortola is at the airport..... We have, on occasion, pulled into Trellis just to replenish cash.

We always spend our last night at Leverick and do the barbecue and mocko jumbles and then motor to Roadtown. We leave early; 7 am or so. Scrub Island would be more or less on the way depending on exactly when you need to be back in Roadtown. I believe that TMM is noon, so you wouldn't have any problem at all doing that. We will be down there chartering with TMM the same time you are.
