St. John - 03/02/2017 09:53 PM

Hello TTOLers, it is great to be back on ttol. We will be sailing out of St. Thomas this mid March and hope to see much of St. John before heading over to BVI for a few days. What are the best anchorages to catch overnight mooring balls at. We will most likely stay on the north side. Any feedback is appreciated.

Francis, Maho, Leinster for peace and quiet --- West of Caneel if you want to dinghy to Cruz Bay for the evening.
Excellent snorkeling at Whistling Cay, Mary Pt. and Waterlemon cay.

There is a wealth of useful information for cruising St. John on the US Park Service website.

Most do.

One notable exception is Cruz Bay. It's packed with local moorings. No place to anchor there.

Watch the weather forecast in March. You are in the tail end of North Swell season. If a swell is running you can go straight to the BVI and then hit St Johns on the back end of the trip.

Thanks for the great feedback. The US Park Service Website is outstanding. It it looking like the North Swell will be down next week. Looking forward to meeting the folks at CYOA and kicking back on St.John. -Mike _/)
