USVI Land Based Trip

USVI Land Based Trip - 09/17/2021 06:59 PM

Looking for advice on a land based USVI trip.

We have done a BVI Charter and a USVI charter (both crewed) in the past. Thinking about taking our 21 and 18 yr old daughters down there but doing land based for 7 days. Really enjoyed St John and the various beaches and harbors, used STT only as an embarkation and debarkation point, didn’t make STX.

Would appreciate thoughts on how to split up and and areas to stay and avoid.

Thanks

Some good options:

Sapphire Beach, St. Thomas - On the beach, Red Hook nightlife is nearby. Good variety of things to do - Hull Bay, Water Island

St. John - Cruz Bay is the busy side with night life, Coral Bay is the quiet side. Lots of outdoor activities in the National Park with many beaches, hikes, and interpretation.

St. Croix - Bigger island with more driving, best diving, good beaches with less crowding, more agriculture and local produce available

For a week I recommend picking one. If you stay on St. Thomas you can day trip to St. John.

Cheers, RickG

We are 26+ year visitors to STJ that started venturing over to VG several years ago.

On STJ, be prepared to drive to the beaches. Walking distance to beaches is very rare and the options available tend to be speedy. Beaches are more populated.

Cruz Bay is a great walking, eating and thinking village and we always miss it when staying on VG. When we stay on STJ, we always head to Cruz Bay for the evening.

STT - all our trips were stop overs in the way to STJ but still enjoyable. RickG’s advice is excellent.

We sailed the USVIs in February on a crewed charter and loved seeing spots we overlooked for years.
