Worried about ferries not running on time and STT wanting you at the airport early we took Speedy's Tuesday afternoon ferry from Virgin Gorda to St. Thomas. We opted for Windward Passage hotel for our last night based on a variety of reviews and that it is one block from the ferry dock and a short walk from one of our favorite restaurants. We were not dissapointed at all. The room was clean, modern, well furnished and had air conditioning. It is an unusual hotel in that the rooms all appear to border the streets on all sides of the block with a large open courtyard on the ground level with an outdoor bar and there was a swimming pool on the second level. We will proably spend a night there next year as it served our needs.

Very weird layout and a bar, not by the pool, that opens "around" 5. Rooms are very nice but we have twice been locked out by key card glitches that lasted a long time. We will still stay there but only if " Emerald Beach" is too high..

Hmm...just checked out Emerald Beach online and it certainly looks like a possibility. It is cheaper than what Expedia charged us for Windward Psg. For next year we, no longer young and energetic, are looking to spend first night and last night on St. Thomas. Our flight down leaves Richmond at 5:45am, so we are up an at'em around 2am. We plan on checking in and napping...

I say if you can get Emerald Beach for around $200 (plus their 17%) go for it...and splurge for dinner at " Oceana"..

We've come to prefer Windward Passage if on rare occasion have to spend a night in STT going or coming. My wife and her sister who had been visiting us was flying out last Wednesday early in am.. went over for a day of shopping on Tuesday. They found as we usually do there, clean room, good Ac..plenty of hot water and their double was 116.00 . We did Emerald Beach or the place next door a number of times over the years but soured on them with a few bad experiences, happy rooming near the Ferry Dock and Frenchtown for a single. night

if it's a short overnight, Windward Passage is definitely a nice inexpensive stop. Their breakfast was surprisingly good. I have never seen Emerald's price even close to WP. We do like the beach and pool at Emerald, but in our opinion the service has really gone downhill.

Hmm, again. When I booked Windward Passage last year for our one night I tried their direct number in St. Thomas but it went to voice mail each time I called. The robot asked be to enter my room number and they would get back to me. Hey, I was in Virginia! So I ended up with Expedia and they charged me $200. for the room and immediately charged my credit card even though I booked six months out. And, they told me it was $40. to cancel the booking. They also got my email address and within twenty minutes I was getting emails from Expedia offering me a room at Windward for $130. What the... So, the question is, how do you get a room at Windward Passage for $119.?

We paid $180 at Emerald Beach last week through Hotels.com.

I always book directly through the hotel website. I've never paid more than $140, and we stay at least 3 different times per year.
