Heading down for 12 days in 3 weeks and starting to think about the must haves..... used to have a great list, but I seem to have lost it. Four of us on "Day One", a 45' Beneteau Oceanis out of CYOA.

Trying to recreate my list:

We'll be taking a soft cooler with hard frozen marinated meat. Like to have the extra support in freezer and eliminates the need to buy spices

Would love to hear of other "must haves" for cabin, cockpit, deck, dingy, going ashore, etc.

We like to bring inflatable noodles for hanging out with a drink off the back of the boat. Then we just leave them there with someone else.

My list starts with "plane tickets, passport, money..." but also small flashlights, an assortment of batteries, which I have in the carry on bag as the airlines do not want batteries in checked bags, Call your credit card company to let them know where you will be and when. Oh, a ballpoint pen with black or blue ink for customs forms. Also, if the mosquitos are out and they ignore your repellent you can get a product called "AfterBite" to keep the itching down. If any of your crew uses contact lens I would suggest bringing the solution with you as I have experienced difficulty sometimes finding it in any stores in the B.V.I. Of course, sometimes they have a shelf full, but sometimes, as it is de ilon's, mon, there is none. Don't forget camera's. Hmm, I think I just may have added a couple of things to my list...lol. We are on Virgin Gorda for three weeks in May. Too old to charter now. Maybe next year we will get you to sail us around...lol. Have the fun I know you will. Enjoy! And safe travels.

On our 2nd boat trip last year, we did a much better job with the bathroom situation which impacted our packing list. We sprayed Poo-Pourri (make sure you get a scent you can tolerate) in the clean water after flushing to seal any smells - do this every time after using the bathroom. Pardon the candor here... For number 2, we sprayed an additional squirt of Poo-Pourri before using the bathroom. When finished, we used a large baby wipe, then rolled it in toilet paper and put it in a large ziplock. We did allow the ziplock to fill some before throwing it out since it was just our immediate family - and the wipes ensured that there was no smell when opening and closing the bag. Of course, if it starts to smell, get a new bag. On our 1st boat trip, we flushed toilet paper and did not effectively use Poo-Pourri. Of course, our ignorance resulted in a smelly boat and a septic system that never worked effectively on the trip. We are lucky that we didn't clog the system. With our new method and proper emptying of the holding tanks on the 2nd trip, we never had an issue with bathroom smells.

We also take an audio cable to plug our phones into the boat's stereo. Since we have 12 and 14 year old girls, I take a ski rope for pulling them on a paddleboard behind the dinghy. This also allows you to disconnect the handle and tie it to the bar on the dinghy davit for swinging off the back (if the boat has this - we are on a powercat). Otherwise, it seems that you have a good list.

Pouring Fantastico in the heads is also good for getting the "funk" out.

What do you exactly mean by this? For taking pictures?

We pack freezable beverage holders like "The Fridge" for keeping the beer/soda drinks colder longer. Also, have started the practice like you of taking our own fins, which are smaller, but also picking up a pair of the complimentary ones at the charter base, which are bigger, to use for snorkeling longer distances or in current.

The cockpit lighting on Day One is very good. I don't think you need to bring any light for the cockpit.
I would bring snorkel and mask but leave the fins at home. Pick up the fins from CYOA.
I assume you will need to check a bag. And if you do I would bring a couple of sharp knives assuming you are doing any cooking on board. I will guarantee you the knives in the galley are pretty dull.
Other things you might consider:
- Ear plugs
- I bring a 50 ft 1/2 inch nylon line to use as a preventer. Doesn't take much space. Just in case I want to use one on a down wind leg
- Bring two or three of the large contractor garbage bags - the lines that are probably something like 50 gallon bags. We find these handy for bagging up two or three kitchen bags wroth of garbage and putting it in the forward hold. Just in case you can't find anywhere to dump garbage for a couple of days.
- I bring a zip lock bag with four or five Tide pods for when we stop and do some laundry at Leverick
- And another zip lock back with a couple of pieces of SoS steel wool pads for cleaning pots if I need them
- A bundle of paracord. Again - takes no room but 101 uses for some paracord.
- Raingear. At least the jacket part.

No, for swimming under the boat at night when I get the mooring pendant snagged around the keel

We take down a small container of talcum powder and
sprinkle on our torsos and between the sheets just
before bed
Seems to make those sticky nights a little less so

Great lists and suggestions. Here's a couple more:
tube of triple anitbiotic. Small cuts get infected quickly
Insulated water bottles for all crew for longer ice off boat
Triton or insulated plastic tumblers for drinks on board, again for more effective use of ice (ice is precious)
flushable wipes(clearly not to actually flush, just staying "fresh")
1 sharp knife checked in Polar cooler because sometimes you get lucky but most boats don't have one

Regarding the knife; I always sail with one, but I don't check any bags - last thing I want to do is deal with delayed or lost luggage.
On my last charter, I shipped a knife to and from the charter company.

You can put a knife sharpener in your carry on, then you can sharpen the knives on the boat.

A waterproof flashlight is nice for snorkeling The Caves at Norman Island.
Also, I carry one in my pocket when we plan to Dinghy around at night. Lots of uses.
