Apparently Jeanneau and Dream Yacht Charters have teamed up to produce a monstrosity called a .... Monocat! What is this monstrosity, this Frankenstein? Is this some kind of Halloween /April fools joke?

https://www.dreamyachtcharter.com/sun-loft-47/

Upon further review it is an interesting concept and may be a great way to save some money and enjoy some more deck space.... Making meals would be great in nice weather and calm conditions....wouldn't want to do an open passage on this thing though! The other thing I am thinking is that in rough conditions there is no place to get out of the spray unless there are side covers that come down for the area towards the stern...

Also curious how it sails although I am sure sailing qualities come in last place compared to cruising cofort? Mast is more forward and the with a self-tacking jib.... I am planning on heading down to the SVGs this April and if we get enough guys together may think about chartering one....

It’s basically a monohull with a cockpit/galley combination,
Looks like it would be comfortable at anchor.

So it’s an unstable monohull and smaller cat for the size. Genius.

12 pax, and no generator?
Not a chance for my crews!

I was trying to figure out layout. No salon to speak of. Cockpit with 12 people . Interesting, but not my cup of tea.

Gee it'd be fun to fall from one side of that cockpit to the other while heeled over.

That cockpit looks it's made for those party cats you see for sunset sails in Key West.

So just like the boat is kinda like a monohull and kinda like a cat ..... I only kinda get it.

I guess I could see it being good for charter - although I'm not sure I want that many people on a boat that size. And if you aren't going to maximize the cabins, why bother with it? The only real benefit once you get past the added cabins is the seating in the helm. I suppose without A/C having your stove up top keeps things below a little cooler as well..

Seems like a boat trying to solve a problem that I'm not sure exists. I doubt we'll see very many of these.. very niche market at best.

We will be down 5/24-6/4 on “Arun” - Oceanis38 from BVI Yacht Charters - our 10th year with them. Planning pirate raid on the new Oil Nut Bay marina!

I'm with Mike Beswick, guess they forgot about that miserable Dufour Atoll. Wonder if any still exist? These would work well for the Summer sailing camps.

I Think a bunch of young millennials would have a blast with 12 people (6 couples). I agree, I would not do it though. The only reason I was thinking was if for my next boys sailing trip where we want to keep costs down. Say 6 guys. Do you know how expensive a cat would be with 6 cabins... probably looking at a Moorings 58 or similar. That would also cost about $20K for the week and that is US$...not even sure if moorings would let me charter a 58 anyway.

This monocat should be around 6-7K. Also 47 feet so easier to handle...

I don't know anything about the Dufour Atoll but it looks a lot beamier than this monocat, Interesting to see what the added weight of the fridges and stoves do to the balance of the boat when they are up on deck vs in the hull...

When we took out the 58, I had to have a second Captain. Luckily got a friend to come that qualified. Maybe you could find an owner selling time?

The Moorings 5000 has 5 cabins. I think a crew cabin, as well as the table which I believe is convertible. Also has the crew cabin.

There are 6 cabin versions of the Lagoon and FP 50’s In charter. Most are with Dream Yacht charters.
