Vero Beach, Fl and South Sound...
The world has to move on. the BVI has to open up quickly. I live in Vero Beach and almost everything is back to normal. Folks are wearing masks in stores and that's about it.Covid 19 will be history very quickly as a disease but of course it has wrecked the world economy, so that will linger for a year or more. All of us need to take on a positive outlook and go back to a normal life.
While in the BVI Both Pam and I felt we were emotionally drained as life was very negative with constant warnings of doom and what we could not do. Once I left and came back to Vero Beach our attitude has completely changed and we are enjoying life again.

In Orlando and still feeling a bit down. Went to go see the SpaceX launch but bummer that it was scrubbed yesterday. Had two business trips before everything was locked down but not travel has me wanting to get away so bad. We were supposed to go to Tanzania and Zanzibar in July, but that's off now. Sigh.

Cheers,

Marcia

It's a continuation of the 24/7 curfew (just less hours) we had to slow the spread of the virus here. If we weren't opening borders tomorrow, I think the curfew would be going away but it's anybody's guess now....

Still seeing new confirmed cases and we may see even more due to people backing off on the social distancing, etc...We in NYS are just starting to open low-risk activities in approved regions...smart IMHO...
No we are not going back to a normal life anytime soon I’m afraid...
Be safe...

Just to be clear, NO new confirmed cases in the BVI. I did see a report of a new case in St. Thomas but nothing in the BVI so far.

Some on topic news: beaches are now open until 5pm and curfew starts at 10pm. Scooters and motorcycles now prohibited 5pm - 5am (not on topic :-) ).

Would love them to keep the scooter ban...as an Ex London Mod I loved my Lambretta but would never ride the way these kids do..and if we went half a mile with open exhausts we would be under arrest. Sadly the accidents have not slowed them down. Great to see the regular curfew adjusted..we are waiting to get back ASAP but dont want to go through the two weeks of being locked up..( we have "permission to reside" statues).

Are "permission to reside" and "residency" the same thing? I'm hearing they're not, and that only the latter are allowed in at this point. No idea when we'll be able to get back to our house.

They are not the same thing. Permanent Residency is a step to becoming a Belonger and there is a card and official number issued with it. Permission to reside comes with a passport stamp and basically carries extra immigration permissions over a land holder and must be renewed each year.

The above reference explains the requirements for Permission to Reside, among them that the applicant, "Will not engage in or seek to engage in any employment in the BVI".
So I'm just curious -- I wonder if that includes working remotely at a job based elsewhere. For example, all the people currently working from home because of Covid 19 -- would it be legal for them to do their work while residing in the BVI?

Dan cheers

I know lots of people who work remotely when in the BVI. The crux seems to be taking employment away from locals, so not an issue. But don't write on your Immigration form that you're coming in to work!
