Just sitting here at Peterbourgh on St. Thomas, looking through the binocular's. Is that a cruise ship on Jost Van Dyke? Where do they put the people?

They usually tender them in and dump them in front of that pavilion to the left of One Love.

My first trip to Jost was a Star Clipper cruise. We tendered in just to the right of the Soggy Dollar. I'm guessing this was a Windstar or bigger "sail boat" cruise?

O-H!

We just spent 5 amazing nights on Jost, however, our 1st day, there were 2 cruise ships. It was AWFUL. Picture Cancun on spring break. We have never gone during high season and now I know why.

What days were the cruise ships on Jost? Do they have a set schedule?

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - beer in hand - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO, What a Ride!"

It's been pretty packed almost every time we've been at White Bay for the last few years -- you can probably thank dear old Kenny Chesney's music and videos for some of that -- but I can imagine high season is even worse. It wasn't quite as bad the Sunday after Cat Fight this past October, but it was still pretty busy!

In September there was enough day trip traffic from the USVI to make White Bay busy-ish. Pizza night at Leverick and White Bay were the only places in the BVI with a heart beat. The USVI were quite busy in contrast. January this year in the BVI was busier than 2013.

Sure, things were quieter on White Bay in the 90s and 00s, before KC wrote a map for a generation to visit via day trip, charter and micro cruise ship. We haven't had the equivalent of the shocks of those eras to drive folks away: Hugo, first Gulf War, Marilyn, 9/11, second Gulf War, 2008 financial shock. I remember coming into Charlotte Amalie on a Navy ship winter 1990 and wondering why the roofs were all blue? FEMA tarps. Marilyn was worse. My brother and his buddies left broke after Marilyn; some of them had no electric for 2+ years after Hugo and had given up.

Today we have low interest loans paying for those enormous catamarans, high disposable income driving the demand, and low oil prices keeping the air fares low. I'm not taking that for granted and we're spending every minute we can in the islands. Along with everyone else.

We're down in ten days. With the spring regatta and Easter week I'm tempted to skip the BVI and the hassle. I'm a St. John boy and love the National Park beaches and bays. But, my lady loves White Bay. See you on White Bay.

Cheers, RickG

Yep, I was planning on celebrating my 40th bday, 3/31, on JVD, but with the Star Clipper in JVD from 10am-4pm, we may just head over to the B-Line on Little JVD instead. 10 more days!
take care,
Mike

If you head over to Ivan's, it's not quite as nuts...then hit Soggy later, after some of the day boats leave...enjoyed an incredible sunset there in October....

The new Ivan's is very nice with room to spread out. B-Line shuts down around 5PM.

Cheers, RickG

We went to the Bee Line in February...our first time. It was fun yet quiet/peaceful. It was just our two boats with a total of 10 people. We had drinks and lunch and were hanging out....until two small (power) boats came in. Then it might as well had been White Bay and the Soggy Dollar. A bunch of loud people that weren't with us. We settled up and let them have their own place.

We'd go back for sure!

On Little Jost, somewhat (as a crow flies) across from Foxy's Taboo. Did not make it to B-Line this last week as we had hoped. Did meet the owner though, what a great guy! We wish him and his established many, many years of great success!

Don't go there...nobody goes there. Stay away!, he he,
Tell everybody to go to the Soggy Dollar instead!
Guess where I'll be? And at the other White Bay too! Nobody goes there either!

Get a whole Key Lime pie at Foxys Taboo while you're at it.

We've only been twice, once in the morning and once we stayed late into the night, but there was some serious competition going on!! I just checked their website, it says 10a-10p

That's what the website says. At this moment there are 7 boats anchored in front of Bline and it was closed before 6 tonight. The big north swell may be the reason there are so many boats in this area. Great Harbour and Little Harbour had no moorings by 3 today.

Thanks for all the great info guys! This board is truly a wealth of knowledge. We will head over to B-line on the 31st for a few hours in the afternoon and then head back over to White Bay once the crowds thin. 8 more days!
