Delta - 09/19/2017 03:45 AM

We have tickets in first class for 9/30/2017 and they are still telling us that flights are still on schedule for SXM! I guess we know what to expect with our January & march tickets. Just so silly to expect that flights will be completed as usual.

Re: Delta - 09/19/2017 10:16 AM

That is ridiculous. American let us rebook December flights to a different destination in January without a change fee.

Re: Delta - 09/19/2017 11:11 AM

I don't think so much it is the particular airline as it it the agent you get, the approach you take and some gentle persistence on your part. Some have reported better success when doing online adjustments/comments/complaints. Some have reported going up the ladder to a supervisor or two and getting results.

The first line representative pretty much has a script to follow and probably little leeway in most cases. Until the flight for sure is cancelled then it will show as scheduled. I would make another call, politely speak with a supervisor and try again.

Re: Delta - 09/19/2017 12:33 PM

We had flights that were flying out near the same time as yours. We called deltas international customer care, explaining the situation, said they were aware. We were put on hold, she came back on and we're giving a credit to rebook and fly within a year. When then explained that SXM was the only place we fly, she put us back on hold, came back on a few minutes later and refunded the entire flight along with the insurance! (She was very nice)

Ruralcarrier said it exactly right! Unfortunately it is all on who you speak too! Just keep calling back.

Just cancelled our flights for our Christmas/New Year trip. Delta gave us a credit. We're fine with that. Also, no additional charges for changing flights. We travel a lot so we'll use the credit.

Re: Delta - 09/22/2017 08:04 PM

I was speaking with a Delta rep. just yesterday, trying to change an upcoming flight, not to SXM. After that was rectified, I casually asked what the most recent news is about SXM. She told me that through Sept. 30, everything would be refunded, and that possibly this will be the situation through the end of the year.

Re: Delta - 09/24/2017 03:58 PM

Are you talking about non refundable tickets as well? We have tickets to Sxm in early November, and were told we could get a credit. Has to be used within one year. No refund on non refundable tickets. So she said

Ellie,

While I don't have very much experience with Delta specifically, I do have a fair amount of airline ticketing experience and time and time again, I've learned that if at first you don't succeed, hang up and call back later and then kill them with kindness.

What you get often ends up with the agent-of-the-moments interpretation of the airline's current game plan. It happened three times with me with AA before I finally got the refunds and fee-free ticket changes I wanted.

Good luck......

Re: Delta - 09/25/2017 06:14 PM

Yes, ours were non refundable. I did get an email from Delta late last week that said our pending February 22 flight could be cancelled without any fees, if we want to. We're holding on right now, that's a long time away.

Re: Delta - 09/25/2017 08:33 PM

I had tickets on Delta for September 9th through the 16th. When Irma struck I called them to cancel and they gave me a credit because Delta had not officially cancelled the flight. On September 8th I received an email from Delta advising flight 908 from ATL to SXM was cancelled. I called Delta as soon as I got that email and they gave me a full refund. I am assuming that once they admit the flight will be cancelled they will agree to refund. I also called the travel insurance company and received a full refund from them which I believe it was because it was a Delta initiated cancellation.

Re: Delta - 09/25/2017 09:00 PM

Delta gave me all my sky miles back for rewards tickets for 16-Sep trip no questions ask.

Re: Delta - 09/26/2017 06:45 PM

We also had non-refundable SXM tickets for this November. When I called Delta a week or so after Irma, they redeposited hubby's reward miles back into his account without a fee. I agreed to a credit voucher for my own ticket, rather than a cash refund, as we are flying to a cruise out of Seattle next June and I needed a ticket for that anyway. So they allowed me to rebook for SEA for next June (even though it was a little over the allowed limit of one year since our initial booking) and they put a credit for a little over $200 into my Delta account d/t the lesser difference in price. I have a year from now to use that additional credit. We travel a lot, so that was fine with us.

The important thing to take away from all this is to be persistent and to ask to speak to a supervisor if needed. I had to in order to get them to extend the 'one year limit' on my initial ticket, even though the difference was only a mere 6 days. Ask nicely, of course. Patience is the key. The initial reps you speak to don't always hold all the power to give you what you want/need, so a supervisor can often help further.

Re: Delta - 09/26/2017 10:05 PM

just got an email from jet blue changing my DIRECT flite in march to one with a layover in jfk both ways and the times sucked.....asked for some sort of refund and the agent sez they can't do it cuz it costs more for layovers than a direct flite... i quickly educated her, but the fact remains that i am not pleased and have stated if /when they posts more itineraries i will be rebooking at NO cost

Re: Delta - 09/26/2017 10:15 PM

If they change your flight from a nonstop to a connection, you are ENTITLED to a full refund, hurricane or no hurricane. Period. You can cancel and get your money back if you want.

Re: Delta - 09/26/2017 10:28 PM

thx carol, just got the entire amount in the BANK..i am gambling that in a few months jet blue will be posting more flites to SXM.

BTW thx also for all the updates

Re: Delta - 09/27/2017 12:04 AM

Glad you got that far with them but in actuality, if they changed your trip to something unacceptable, such as changing a non-stop flight to a connecting flight, I believe Carol is correct and you should have been given a full refund as opposed to a travel bank credit. The credits do expire if not used within a year.

Re: Delta - 09/27/2017 12:10 AM

I had the same experience. Flight to STT from 9/8 to 9/16. They threatened to charge me a cancellation fee if I didn't rebook, but they didn't end up doing that and re-deposited our two award tickets back into our account.

Re: Delta - 09/27/2017 01:23 AM

THE MAIN REASON I BOOKED THE DIRECT FLITE WAS THE VERY CONVENIENT TRAVEL TIMES AS OPPOSED TO DEPARTING 0530 A.M.
MY RETURN FLITE THE GAVE ME HAD A 5 HOUR LAYOVER IN jfk...SO NOW I WILL WAIT WITH HOPES OF MORE FLITES ADDED TO THEIR ITINERARIES BEFORE MARCH, WHICH I ANTICIPATE WILL HAPPEN...ESPECIALLY AFTER LOOKING AT WHAT THEY ARE OFFERING NOW.....XCUSE THE CAPS... JUST A HABIT

Re: Delta - 09/27/2017 01:48 AM

I can't believe this. My God. The airlines are doing the best they can with dealing with this along with all the rerouting because of Harvey along the gulf coast and all the areas Irma and Maria decimated. Give them some time to sort all this out. Lots more to worry about that's going on around us instead of fretting on getting cash or credit.

Re: Delta - 09/27/2017 02:05 AM

Delta is showing a flight this Thursday from Atlanta to SXM. I wonder if it will really go? Can you just imagine the nightmare that the airlines, Hotels and Villa owners are having to deal with now with all these pissed off nasty insensitive people worrying about their lousy fares or deposit all over a act of GOD! Its out of there control and just imagine their losses compared to a lousy airline ticket or room rental. Hey folks its not just their disaster its everyone's. I always tell me kids to suck it up and stop complaining cause it always can get a lot worse. Ridiculous.

Re: Delta - 09/27/2017 07:29 AM

Fretting??? LOL
just want to be sure i can get to st Maarten....you seem to have misinterpreted my comments, and Carol's who had given me the guidance.

Re: Delta - 09/27/2017 11:14 AM

Interesting and confirms the post saying just to keep calling. I posted elsewhere that I had N/S flight R/T from BOS in January and got THE email changing to a connection in NY.

Zero issues with the JB agent. Credited money paid back to CC and points back to account. Taxes were put in a travel bank for some weird reason but that was minimal

We even had a conversation about people trying to get home from SXM and another about St. Johns' airport opening in a couple of weeks

Excellent interaction...

Re: Delta - 09/27/2017 12:15 PM

Again, calm down people. I don't see complaining here, just people dealing with the situation.

Re: Delta - 10/04/2017 10:45 PM

We were scheduled for an SVI charter from 25 Oct to 04 Nov, 2017, flying into STT on Delta with non-refundable tickets. It took about an hour, but today Delta re-issued those tickets with no change fee and no fare differential for Apr 18 to Apr 28, 2018.

The hangup is that we had purchased our tickets direct from Delta (no travel agent) in early Feb 2017, and the official hurricane policy for such tickets is that (1) only re-booking fees will be waived (any fare increase must be paid) and (2) travel must be completed within one year of the ticket issue date. I was able to convince Delta to waive both restrictions for two reasons. First, it is fundamentally unfair to punish with a short travel deadling those customers whose money Delta has held the longest. Second, the hurricane policy applicable to tickets issued by professional travel agents contains neither restriction. Here is a Dropbox link to that policy.
Delta Professional Advisory: 2017-09-21

Act quickly, because both the lay and professional policies have a re-ticketing deadline of Oct 31, 2017.
