What places will you miss most?

Post Irma has changed the landscape. What places will you miss most on your return visit to SXM?

For me it would be Dinghy Dock in Oyster Pond and Busby's on Dawn Beach.

Calmos cafe if they don't open & jewels in paradise who didn't reopen.

Calmos Cafe will be on my list... so liked that place. I think they have plans to reopen? No?

LaPlaya beach bar, Dreams, Paradise View.

Dreams was very nice, never really checked out Laplaya?

Had my heart set on Dreams last April after hearing such great things, but that can't happen now, sadly. Will miss Busby's and Perch.

Linda and I will surely miss Lees. Hopefully he brings back his work crew and great mahi mahi. Dreams is another place we always liked. Our favorite of all, or close to our favorite, was Palm Beach, over in Orient Beach. Nice staff, great food and fun waves! Luckily we didn't have to say The Horny Toad Guesthouse. Fortunately that will be back. Both of us will be back late February or early March. We can't wait!

I will kick in with Skipjacks, which I have heard has intentions to re-open, and Busby's, which I have heard will not. If I have those facts wrong, someone please let me know!

La Playa is coming back. We'll miss Dreams, which is not reopening, but at least we can get the magic of Bruno at La Playa.

Is Hilma's for sure not reopening?

I have not heard anything indicating she is. Supposedly the trailer was destroyed. It was mentioned she was sighted, possibly working elsewhere, but I have not been able to confirm that.

Hoping my three will all come back.....Club O, Dreams and the 747

Busby's, hands down. The rest of it is inconvenient but temporary, but damn, Busby's was such a fine place.

Pelican--Dreams is gone for good. The 747 too, I think.

Sadly don't think you will see the 747 for passengers again. Although KLM still has few yet they will be retired. Air France (KLM's parent) has retired its remaining 747 passenger jets and Delta (KLM ) partner flew its last earlier this year

I loved it there.

Well as the memory of the hurricane fades and business picks up, maybe something like dreams would resurect.

As for my beloved 747. KLM loves it, as does Lufthansa. Lufthansa has new ones so they will carry on.
KLM reportedly has 13 left in service with plans to fly until summer 2021. They still take it to Curacao of all places which we saw in February.

KLM appreciates the novelty and is planning several flights in January 2019 to the consumer electronics show.

I suspect when the Swan Song for the Queen of the Skies comes, there will be a farewell tour and given that the King is a KLM pilot, I wouldnt be surprised to see her make at least one more passenger visit or a whole month of last visits in the winter of 2020/2021.

At least I can hope. I bet they do. They are too smart and too cool not too.

They have always taken it to Curacao when leaving SXM to refuel and drop passengers.

I know. But curacao isnt mumbai, nairobi, johanesburg, toronto, delhi, hong kong, or bangkok. Its Curacao. So there has to be a tad of sentamental emotion in that operational decision to keep sending it to Curacao.

Im hoping for a bit of that to translate into an SXM encore before the end.

Going back in December, we'll miss staying at Club Orient and having breakfast at Paradise View.

We had plans to use Paradise View for breakfast in April. It sounded wonderful!

Calmos and Hilmas. Many a lunch at Calmos turned into lunch,dinner, and sunset!

First of all it would have to be Units C11A and C11B at Simpson Bay. Bought these timeshare units pre-construction in 1984. Views of Simpson Bay, Lagoon, and the Atlantic. Spent many happy years there even with the partial obstruction in recent years by SB Villas, and mature growth of trees . The C buildings and D building at SBRM were demolished as being "beyond economical repair" . Also will miss Dreams which we finally discovered a few years back.

So I thought I read somewhere that Skipjacks was rebuilding. Did that change or am I wrong about having read that? We love Skipjacks for a great meal and good service on the Dutch side.

Supposed to reopen before end of this year. Lots of work being done.

I have friends who's C unit was demolished and correct me if I am wrong but you could still pay your maintenance and receive points.
I do not have much experience with points and timeshares but paying maintenance for a unit that does not exist and just receiving points is strange.

Charles from Good Time Charlies. We've been visiting with Charles from when he was working near Paridisio. At any rate he has been our connection to Orient for a number of years. Before him, it was Roy (RIP). Roy took such good care of us both at Orient and in Grand Case. And if I dare go back a few years, Bikini Beach (from years ago/Elise) is also missed. Both Laura and Corina. I know that was long ago, but still missed. I'm sorry for the changes. But will be back to experience the new St. Martin in 2020. I feel it's okay to miss the people and places that helped us love the island. Dang. I think I need a Carib to help with these tears for the walk down memory lane.

I'll miss Busby's a lot as well...but especially Summit Resort, which was "our place" for many years and the first place we stayed at on our first personal trip to SXM in '78.

Calmos, need a mudslide! Alex come back.

So glad to hear Skipjack's is working on reopening. We would usually go there more than once on each visit. It had also become our traditional place for our "arrival" dinner upon returning to the island since it was nearby and "al fresco". Great food and ambience. Also miss their tuna carpaccio (yum, yum!!!)

Dingy Dock is gone in Oyster Pond. Location is Simpson Bay is open.

And has some very good and interesting nightly specials.

I agree Busby's is big void and Summit Resort was a favorite place to stay on short trips back while my villa was being built. Praying for a quiet hurricane season and my prayers go out to the Hawaiian islands this weekend.

Yes, I remember that place. I think that's the only fast food joint in SXM that we have ever eaten in!!

Loved Turtle Pier. There was a saucy parrot!

Breakfasts were awesome! I like their creole dishes as well.

We did also. Had breakfast there a lot when in SXM and always ate there before our plane ride home. That was a loss for us!

i have missed Turtle Pier for years now. LOVED LOVED LOVED their Conch soup and the world's best Coconut Shrimp!!!!!

Shadow, who was the cook there for many years, had a lovely place just down the road after TP closed. Sadly gone after Irma. We bumped into Shadow about a month ago and he's trying to find a place to reopen but it's tough times.

OMG, I never put it together that it was Shadow under the boat that was him!!!

Isn't the Rusty Rocket in that place now?

We loved Turtle Pier. It’s so disheartening to drive by and see the property deteriorating and that was before Irma.
